Venessa had left the group behind her. Ellena and her group were back in Michigan and Venessa had struck out on her own. It was time. She was starting to get to close to those people. She tried her damndest to not let anyone in, but three years of being with the same group it was inevitable. Venessa just didn't want to be that close to anyone. Not after her dad died on outbreak day. She told herself never again. Never again would she risk loosing someone she cared about that much. So she didn't cared, or at least she tried not to. And failed. She saw Ellena as a big sister. She hated to leave Ellena but it was better than watching her ripped apart by hungry fingers of rotters. Vessna's plight was a double edged sword. She left because she didn't want to grow to miss anyone when they died but by leaving she missed them and found herself depressed. She walked down the road kicking a rock along the way. The streets were eerily empty. Just some trash and abandonded cars littering the streets. She had to ditch her ride a few miles back. She had hotwired a car and when it ran out of gas she got another, but after the second one got a flat she found herself walking.
It wasn't until she saw the rotters around the next corner did she start to panic. She walked along kicking her rock over and over until she got to the corner and tried a power shot kicking the thing trying to sent it sailing in the air. She did. It hit a rotter in the back. A rotter she didn't see until just now. Fuck. She thought and turned and started bolting it in the opposite direction. There was no time to think only time to run. She hoped she wasn't about to die. Not today. She still hadn't gotten a chance to see the empire state building.
