Hannah shrugged about the coffee, and as she wrapped the blanket around herself to get warm, she looked through the cabinets to see if there was any. She was mainly joking about the coffee, but if there was any she definitely wanted some. She mostly found a whole lot of nothing, but some canned goods, and surprisingly two cans of Folgers. The plastic of one can had a hole in it, and unfortunately, after opening it, bugs. She quickly shut the lid and threw the can in the sink. The second can was unharmed and still sealed though, and she took it out of the cabinet and place it on the table along with a metal strainer that was next to it.
"I guess it does have coffee," she said smiling at Kwai. She headed to the hallway, and turned around before entering it. "I'm not afraid, I've been on my own too long for that. If there's any fear involved, it's that I don't know you well enough and that's all. As for sleeping arrangements, I'll sleep on the floor in the hall, you two can take the two rooms. Whether you sleep in the beds or not is up to you. I do have a request though, can the wolf sleep on the porch and guard? I have a couple reasons for it, main one being a good nights sleep." She waited for a reply, and turned into the hallway, and slumped down against the wall with the blanket pulled around her.
Hannah's news about the coffee made her exited. She hadn't had coffee in far too long and it looked like tomorrow she would have a chance to change that. They didn't have electricity but she could start a fire and she could make it that way.
"I'll make coffee tomorrow then"
When Oscar had said he was going to sleep on the floor Kwai seriously considered offering him half of the bed that she was sleeping on but then Hannah said that she would sleep in the hallway. To bad for Oscar Kwai thought to herself.
"I agree about tomorrow. It will be best to get moving as early as we can"
She grabbed a couple of blankets for Shadow. He wouldn't want to sleep in the house anyways so Hannah's request was amazingly easy to meet. She laid the blankets on the porch and Shadow curled beneath them a long sigh escaping his mouth.
she quickly got into the bed, which was graciously clean of dead body gunk, and curled into the blanket she had picked for herself.
Oscar smiled at the coffee. Before the apocalypse he hadn't really drank it much. Maybe after a bad hangover or when he was crazy tired. It might be nice to have it now. His grandma used to make some out of the beans she grew, it was bitter. Probably why he never drank it much.
"I'll take the other room te ," Oscar said taking a blanket in. Inside the room he pulled off all the sheets and flipped the mattress. It wasn't stained, at least none he could see. He flopped down on it, kicking off his boots. He bunched the blanket up as a pillow and laid his head upon it. Closing his eyes he tried to go to sleep, it was going to be a long day tomorrow. As he tried to fall asleep he tossed and turned, his mind flooded of images of K'wai and his spirit journey.
Hannah laid restlessly against the wall, unable to fully fall asleep. Her eyes hurt, and the pain caused her to resist sleep. She sat there thinking about her daughter, as she often did at night. It didn't keep her from sleeping, but that night she was so used to sleeping in her car she couldn't manage to do it on a cold wooden floor. She thought for a moment, and then silently rose to her feet.
She walked to Kwai's door, and silently looked in at her form under the sheets. She thought for a moment why she was even considering what she was about to do, but she closed the door behind her, and tip toed over to her bed. Once she got to the edge of the bed, she lifted the sheets, and slipped under them. Then she went so far as to wrap her arms around Kwai, "Don't say anything... It won't happen again.." Her body was extra warm, due to her rapid heartbeat, but the warmth under the sheets, to her, made it worth it.
Kwai woke as the door open and she listened to the footsteps, definitely Hannah, she thought to herself and then something strange happened. The woman crawled into bed and wrapped her arm around Kwai. She felt the woman's chest against her back and she sighed. This felt nice. She inched a little closer until their entire bodies were touching and closed her eyes. She felt safe like this. She was tempted to put her hand on top of Hannah's own but was worried that the woman might freak out and leave, so she simply tried to get back to sleep.
It didn't take her long to fall asleep with Hannah cuddling against her. As she fell asleep she couldn't get the woman's words out of her head. She wanted this to happen again, wanted it to happen every night but she wouldn't push Hannah.
