Hearing the assorted questions from all her Scout team leaders reminded Tegan that she had some words to say to them in a few moments; once she was sure all of them - Bam, Knoxville, Dana, Hannah, Pontius, England, Jason and Preacher - along with both of Belle Isle's major-domos (Sarah & Ian) - were present, she coughed quietly a few times to get their attention. Standing tall and proud, her shillelagh in hand if needed, she began to speak to them.
"Everyone, as you know, we've been here for about five weeks now and as much as I'd like to say that its' been a bed of roses, it hasn't. That's no disrespect to anyone here at Belle Isle - God knows they've stood by our side when needed and vice-versa - but its time.....its' time for us to continue Westward.
"The plan is going to be as follows: we'll leave tomorrow morning, sometime after first light. That way," looking straight at Kern, Preacher - and Clancy, who was standing alongside them - "our recon teams can get up in the air and scout us a route out of Michigan that keeps us as far away from any major urban centers as possible. Once we get out of Michigan, we'll begin making our way west to California....," pausing to unfold a map she'd brought outside with her and spread it on a nearby table. Waiting for everyone to get a look, she continued.
"That's our destination, ladies and gentlemen: San Simeon, California. Its' northwest of Los Angeles along the California coast but far enough away to provide us a place to rebuild. There's a castle, three additional mansions next to it, and thousands of acres of territory around it; plenty of room for us to call home. There's even an airfield nearby, Kern, where we can park the choppers and Clancy's aircraft. In short, its' got everything we need to rebuild a community together." Looking at everyone, her face softened a bit as she continued on.
"Ladies and gentlemen....now, I don't know what's going to happen once we leave this island, and I don't know if all of us will make it there; God knows we've already lost enough people as it is....but I do know this: the men and women standing in front of me - and every Scout that's here on this Island - are the finest men and women in the world and it couldn't make me any prouder than it already does to stand alongside you. When we leave here tomorrow, I'll be at the head of the convoy, where a leader should be....and we will leave no one behind! Not here, not anywhere!"
Looking up at the sky for a moment or two, Tegan finished up her words. "Its' mid/late morning; there's a nice fall chill in the air. Enjoy this day, get whatever you need done done, chillax.....for we go back to work tomorrow morning, ladies and gentlemen. Let's be about it, people."
