Claire chuckled watching Marcus stand to his feet and lost his balance for a small moment in time, her fingers extended towards his outstretched palm and pulled herself up. Her head turned to glance over her shoulder as he mentioned the office with a casual shrug, “Nice office by the way” she commented looking in front of her once more. He eyes followed his gestures as he spoke, though she found her gaze lingering on the space him and his children slept at night. She wondered for a brief moment what his children did to keep themselves busy while their father lead a community. Claire stated a simple thanks shifting past Marcus into the board room, her feet carried her around the large table with a relaxed sigh. It had been a long time since Claire could move around comfortably without waiting for the dead to slip around every second corner. She stopped to watch Marcus speak though, as the words drifted towards her she rested against the wall taping her finger rhythmically against her hip.
“I like what you’ve done to the place” she commented slightly sarcastic wiping the dust on a nearby shelf onto the tip of her finger before cleaning it on her pants “who joins in all depends on you, I guess if you’re willing to trust me already I’m going to have to believe in your judgement of the people in your community” she told him seriously before pushing off the wall and following towards the next stop on the tour. She leaned in the doorway as he told her of their communication room, for a man she barely knew it was obvious he had the community’s best interest as heart. And he was doing a damn good job at it.
“You've got a good thing going here” she complimented, there were bound to be flaws somewhere as is common for life but so far so good. Claire stepped aside to make room for Marcus to lead her to a set of stairs leading to the second level. Her eyes traveled over the doors, in which the survivors slept and the guards stationed outside the doors as he spoke. She nodded in confirmation that she was listening intently at the words he spoke.
“It makes sense, catch an infection quick and treat it ASAP. I hope the medical setup you’ve got going is good though” she followed once more looking at the details of the corridors they followed. Once again Claire followed Marcus to a set of stairs coming to a lounge that appeared to be a rest area for the community.
“I’ll admit that you’ve done a pretty damn good job running things. The set up’s good, layout’s nice. Good thing you’ve started farming, food’s real hard to come by these days. I’m not regretting taking you up on that offer just yet” she told him, adding lighthearted humor with a soft chuckle “Usually I’d argue that late hours don’t bother me but I haven’t slept over 18 hours this past week and it’s taking a toll on me” she could feel a tired yawn suppressed between her cheeks and a slack in her shoulders.
Claire felt comfortable following after Marcus to a room he picked out for hers, she noted that if she ever needed to ask him something that his room wasn’t all that far off. Her lips tilted into a smile she couldn’t describe, she hadn’t felt safe enough to relax in such a long time that it almost felt intoxicating. Her eyes lingered on the bed, the room and she knew she’d made the right choice.
“It’ll do, it’s perfect. Thank you” her words were sincere, honest and they came from the truest version off herself that she rarely showed to other individuals. She turned to a new voice in their vicinity, the same man she’d met when she arrived, another capable soldier who served the community. Claire was curious as to what information he had, the Hive was after all her home once and it was still sad to know that it was only a remnant of what it used to be. She looked towards Marcus, curious to know whether he’d share the information with her, after all she was new to their community even if she did take him up on his offer.
