As she listened to Preacher talking to Clancy, Tegan chimed in with a few words of her own. "Preacher's right; past ranks don't mean a whole helluva with us...here, with the Scouts, you gotta' prove yourself to earn a place with us. Do that, and we'll stand by you and with you always. Don't do that and as Preacher says, you can skedaddle back onto your airplane and fly off back to wherever you came from.
"For what its' worth, though, I hope you do stay; we can use a pilot of your talents but like I said and like Preacher said, you gotta' earn your place with us." Leaning back in her chair, Tegan asked, "As I said earlier, where have you been these past three-plus years and who's the passenger you brought with you? Is he going to be a threat to us or to Belle Isle?" nodding towards the handcuffed man as she asked.

Clancy felt a light twitch in the corner of her mouth as if she was struggling to hold her tongue--something along the lines of "if Tamara wants to stop me, she can herself!" or something or other--but she withheld with a light grimace before looking back towards the entrance of the museum, where her passenger apparently still was as if they hadn't collected him like they said they would.
"His name is Hyatt Wright...strangely enough, he was armed to the bone, and all he did was ask me for a flight. He even willingly let himself be handcuffed. I don't know how to describe a guy like that. And why do you need me here, Tamara, if you don't mind me asking? It seems you have quite the regalia of pilots and aircraft here as it is," she said lightly before looking at other man that had basically told her to lay off her friend she hadn't seen in ages...was a simple hug really so devastating these days? It was appalling.

Meanwhile, back at the Yacht Club Building......"All Scouts, All Scouts, Round up! We have a Scout to save. Location is west of the Island near a strip mall. Mrs. Sarah Sharpe, do you know any location's that fits the description that David Forest gave over the radio? I'm heading to the Kiowa and going to fly around to see if I can find anything. Jason Kern, Out."
Grabbing the handheld, Sarah spoke into the radio. "Yeah, there's a place about two miles north of the MacArthur Bridge," pausing to look at the map in front of her (Sarah having gotten up from her seat to look). "When you exit Belle Isle over the bridge, the connecting street is Grand Boulevard; go about two miles north to where Grand crosses over Gratiot Boulevard; just off the east corner of where they intersect should be the place in question.
"I've got three Humvees crossing the Bridge now; radio call sign is Island 1. Coordinate with ground units on pickup. Sarah out." Setting the radio down, she rested her head in her hands and said a short, quiet prayer for everyone heading out....

Meanwhile, back at the Museum.....Seeing the glare Clancy was giving Preacher - and remembering what usually happened in those situations afterward - Tegan looked over at them and said, "Guys, guys...relax. Preacher, the occasional hug from an old friend is not to kill anyone...and Clancy, the last time you looked at someone like that, I believe there was a fight afterward....
"...but anyway, now that you've explained what's going on, here's the answer to your question: we're currently on our way west from New York to California. We were part of a large stronghold in new York City called the Hive; we sixty or so," pointing around to everyone who was from the Hive, "are - as far as any of us know, the only ones to survive. Now, we don't know what's ahead of us on our way to California, but like Xenophon and his brave 10,000, we've made our way this far, we'll make it the rest of the way....
"Problem is, Clancy, we don't know what's our there between here and San Simeon, California," figuring the time had come to let everyone know where the Scouts were heading to 'cross country, "and while we've got a pair of helicopters, that only lets us know what's going on at juat beyond visual range; we need to know what's out there, hundreds of miles ahead of us and that's where you and your short-haul jumper out there come in," pointing in the general direction of Clancy's Skyvan aircraft. "You want to earn your keep, Clancy, help us find out what's our there on our way to California...and same goes for you, Hyatt," she added, pointing towards him. "Both of youse want to join us, welcome aboard...if not, there's the door. I leave the answer in your hands, Clancy."

Clancy hid the light flicker of hurt in her eyes as she heard Tegan's words; she really didn't need her here that much, apparently, if she was so willing to let her go. She managed a small smile and closed her eyes a second to think before speaking, her eyes still closed, and her hands fell to her pockets.
"That Skyvan can be used to take a small team of scouts, and it can be used for drop-down takeovers...you know, start at a point I can land and then work steadily outward,", she said lightly with a glance towards the other man, then back at Tamara, "so I'm in for the most part. I'll let Hyatt vouch for himself."
And with that, she turned and walked back out towards her Skyvan plane, and partially to see if she could look at the other aircraft if they were nearby. Hyatt watched the scene quietly before looking at Tamara lightly as well, his poker face being such that not even a hint of a grin was seen. As if the silent question was to show his synonymous agreement to be of help, he spoke in a much quieter, husky voice, "Where is the place one goes to get checked out...?"

Seeing the hurt in Clancy's eyes momentarily, Tegan knew she'd touched a nerve but in her mind it was a justified nerve; they'd lost too many people since leaving the Hive to be sentimental about the niceties of life.....but as she watched Clancy head for the doors to walk outside, Tegan thought, she'll get over it.
Meanwhile, off to one side, Clancy's passenger looked over at her and asked where the Island's medical facility was located at. "Over on the other side of the Island," she said, still feeling guilty as hell about having been so brusque towards one of her oldest - and outside of the Scouts, one of the few - friends she had in this world. Holding up a finger to the man as if to say, "wait a second," she called out to Preacher, "Preacher, go outside and tell Clancy I want to talk to her, okay?"

Jon just watched the two going back and forth and how the pilot just stared at him. A smile was over his face as he leaned slightly against the desk as he was told to stand down. But he wasn't really caring of how the blonde looked at him, she could have that look of lust in her eyes and he would't change his facial expression. Remembering the story that was said earlier from Tegan about the pilot. Clancy left and had the hurt look in her eyes. Shaking his head, he stood up straight and looked at Tegan. "And to think, that's the pilot we saved back in Baghdad boss? I mean, Not trying to be rude to your friend....buuut...with how she is acting, I'm leaning that she will be one to keep an eye on. And about the hug, You really want Julie to lash out? Look at it through her eyes. Your in physical therapy a lot, you two barely see each other because of each of you two's injuries and taking care of Little Tyler. What would she do if she saw you hugging Clancy like that boss? Not trying ot start a fight with you, but I'm just pointing something from an outsider point of view." His chocolate brown eyes looked at Clancy as she was going through her plane and saw her trying to look at the two Helicopters as they both were taking off of the the ground. Seeing the Helicopters flying the North as they were escorting a small convoy, he began to think as he stopped as Tegan asked him to call Clancy back over from the plane.
"Hey boss, before I do call her back over...I have a question. What are you going to do with the Little Black Bird? If your not going to Pilot it, mind if I take it off your hands? Jason taught all of us to fly the helicopters, so it'll be a cake walk for me to pilot it since I'm smaller then the Viking, and then we have Recon team 2 in the air instead of having them all in one chopper again. Then depending on IF, and that's a very big IF Clancy stays and everyone takes her in with warming welcome arms, she could then be Recon Leader 3. If you lay down the ground rules on the pecking order to her, then I'm down with your choice boss." Going over to the door, he pushed it open and would yell out to Clancy. "Yo! F/A 18 pilot who's proned to being in wrecks, Tegan wants to talk to you. So hustle up and get your ass back inside." Stepping back in, he would walk towards the desk and jump up onto it. Sitting down, he kept the rifle relaxed in his grip as the barrel is aiming at the floor and the butt of the rifle is against his shoulder.

"Huh! That's a laugh. One incident that wasn't my fault, and suddenly I'm the goddamn laughingstock," Clancy said loudly upon turning on her heels and walking inside the museum again, checking the man who called her in on the way in as if returning his taunt nonverbally before standing in front of Tegan with both arms at her sides. From the look in her eyes, it seemed she really was trying her best to keep a cool head--that incident quite the touchy subject for her. With a light sigh of exasperation, Clancy began with a glance downward and to the side, her brows furrowed, "If hugging your savior and an old friend you haven't seen in years and fought the idea she might be dead is such a fucking crime around here, then it won't happen again. Apologies."
She stood with her arms rising to cross over her chest by this point, not even looking in the man's direction, as Hyatt himself seemed nonchalant about what he had heard the man say to Tegan, like he knew it wasn't his business as much as he may not have liked it.

Not trying ot start a fight with you, but I'm just pointing something from an outsider point of view." Preacher said in his best fatherly, "listen-to-my-advice" tone of voice to Tegan.
"Points taken," Tegan replied, watching as Preacher headed over to the door to call Clancy back inside the Museum; as he did that, she tried to think of what to say to one of her few closest friends (it wasn't that Tegan didn't have a lot of friends - she did - it was that, over the years, she could count on one hand and part of the other the number of close friends she had - and she considered Clancy a close friend), leaning forward in her chair.
Hearing Clancy's voice as she re-entered the museum, Tegan said to her, "Clancy, you're no laughingstock! If you've made it this far in life, you know that," motioning for her to sit down next to her. Watching Clancy sit down, Tegan looked over at her. "Look, I apologize for being so brusque with you earlier; that was wrong and I shouldn't've been that way. But you gotta' understand something; everyone in our group looks out for each other and they all look up to me to lead them, which means they can be very overprotective of me, especially in the weeks since Rikers' island fell. Granted, I chafe at it at times but I've accepted the fact that as leader of the Scouts, its' something I have little if any say in, especially now that I'm married and have a son and wife to worry about.
"Now, Preacher was right; ranks don't mean a whole helluva lot here. Here, with us, you earn your place, you prove yourself....you do that, we've all got your back, from me and Julie and Preacher and the Viking out there all the way down to the youngest Scout. We're a family: we fight together, we work together, we party together, occasionally we even fight amongst ourselves but we stick up for one another and I think you can become a part of our group....and we can definitely use a person of your talents.
"Now, as Preacher was saying earlier," Tegan continued, looking over at him before returning her focus to Clancy, "we've got two reconnaissance birds: the two helicopters you probably saw on your way in....but like I said before, they're short-distance. Your bird, on the other hand, is perfect for long-distance reconnaissance, something we can definitely use on the way to California. You'd be working under Jason Kern, the big guy with the Viking beard you spoke to earlier, but if you're as good a pilot now as you've been in the past, Clancy, you'll fit in quite easily...both you and your passenger," pointing towards the man that had arrived with Clancy.
"So, if you think about it, Clancy," holding her hand out towards Clancy in the form of a handshake, "I'm offering you a place with us, with the Scouts..you're a good person and we can use good people, especially nowadays. What d'ya say?"

Clancy took in what Tegan said as she remained sitting beside her, her gloved hands folded firmly in her lap. Her gaze shifted from the floor, to Tegan, and then aside again in a pattern while she listened, before she spoke at the gap after Tegan had finished.
"I know a group that sticks together when I see one, and I am not here to try and rip it all apart. I am aware rank means nothing...your Captain introduced himself as such, and so did I in kind," she said to Tegan but her gaze returned fully to Tegan as she saw her extend her hand towards her and, after a couple seconds of thought, slowly took it and shook it firmly. At the mention of her passenger, however, Clancy looked at Hyatt who was staring towards the entrance of the museum, "I think he is wanting to stay here on Belle Island."

As everyone around sat and there about this-and-that, Thomas kept an ear focused on the radio, listening to the back & forth between Kern in Recon 1 and the ground convoy. "Tegan," he said quietly to her, "Recon 1 and Island 1 are en-route to the Scout's location in Detroit." As Tegan acknowledged his statement, he continued listening in on the back-and-forth between the units heading off the island to rescue one of their own; glancing over at Preacher, he asked, "Preacher! Should we stay here and continue monitoring everything or should we return to the yacht club building and await further news there?" As far as Thomas was concerned, the sooner they could get Tegan and everyone else to safer ground, the happier he'd be...

His eyes watched as the boss and Clancy talked back and forth. Then his attention went to the helicopters as they were taking off and leading the charge, or so he thought. Then he heard Hannah's message that her run was now turning into a rescue mission. Jon looked over to Thomas who seemed to be worried and fidging a bit in his seat. "Preacher! Should we stay here and continue monitoring everything or should we return to the yacht club building and await further news there?" As far as Thomas was concerned, the sooner they could get Tegan and everyone else to safer ground, the happier he'd be.
Sighing as he saw that this guy was beyond green. Standing up from his spot, he hopped off the counter with the slim cigar on his lips. Taking a heavy drag from it and inhaling the smoke, he slowly exhaled it in streams out of his nose. Looking over the counter, he found a metal ashtray. Tapping the cherry out, he would begin to talk to Thomas. "Now...Thomas was it? Here's the thing about Security duties. You go by the pecking order and where the client goes. Jason was the highest on the list under Tegan in this little journey to the museum which is still filled with great amazement. But after he left, he left me in charge of the remaining detail. So, do you still see Tegan sitting? You really want her to move with her still healing leg?" He pointed to her leg with his left hand as his right hand rested on the handle of his Rifle. Lifting it up, he had it aiming at the ceiling. "Now, You do have a point about going back to the Yacht club, which will take about 15 minutes to simply ride back to said building. With most of the troops heading out to the city, that leaves this spot the second heaviest defended building. Hyatt, if I let you out of them handcuffs, you think you can play nice with the rest of us and be on Security detail? If not, then I'll put you in a room so you can just sit there in the dark. Your choice."
Post by Hyatt K. Wright on Sept 26, 2016 19:30:18 GMT -5
Hyatt heard the light tease in Preacher's voice, but even amidst so, Hyatt simply turned his head to look at the man who had just addressed him and spoke just as calmly and quietly, as if the taunt had no effect. "Considering Clancy is still standing and not a ragdoll in the pilot seat of her chair...", he started with a light raise of his hands to show he could've easily strangled Clancy at any time during the flight, or even during landing, but he didn't, "..I'd say 'play nice' it is...Preacher, was it?", he asked with his fierce greyish gaze, though calm, on Preacher now, and was appropriately keeping his distance from Tegan as if knowing the procedures of guard duty and being a "guest" during one.

Before Thomas could reply to Preacher's words - and to Tegan's mind, he did look chastened over his question - Tegan held up her shillelagh as if she were about to rise up from her chair, but she looked over at Thomas and said, "Preacher's right; with (a) a good portion of our group - and Belle isle's people as well - heading off the Island," pausing to wave Elise and her people over, and (b) with all the firepower we've got here, at this location, we're in a safe position, so we'll hunker down here, coordinate with Sarah through Elise," pointing over towards her - "and wait for our people to return."
Hearing Clancy's passenger talking - and quickly judging him to be not a serious threat to the group - she looked over at Clancy. "Uncuff him, Clancy," she said; pointing towards the passenger, "be advised, though, sir: you make one threatening move and the cuffs go back on and you can spend your time here in a dark room, is that understood?"
Post by Hyatt K. Wright on Sept 27, 2016 23:51:26 GMT -5
Hyatt stood calm and nonthreatening as he saw Clancy walk up and uncuffed him, only to do nothing more than rub his wrists and nod to Tegan to show his understanding of the situation. And with that, he simply turned aside and looked around at the inside of the museum, it was made for such a thing, after all, wasn't it?
Clancy turned her head back to look at Tegan, quietly letting go of her hand and resting it at her own side again, "Well, Tamara...how will I go about proving myself? And you need to go somewhere? I can help you if you want..?"

Thomas thought about Preacher's words and nodded quietly; he'd seen how a few Secret Service details had worked from interviewing presidential candidates back in 2012, so he knew how they worked and who needed to do what and when. "Makes sense," he said. The more he thought of Preacher's words, the more it did make sense; other than the Yacht Club building, the Museum was the safest place on the Island for everyone at the moment. Sitting down near Tegan, Thomas set his lever-action down and looked around, figuring it was better to save his energies for when they finally did move out of the Museum than fight a losing battle for the time being....

Jon took out a cigar from his pack and set the pack down on the counter. Taking out a lighter, he would light up the cigar with grape flavor plumes of smoke shooting out. Looking around at everyone. "Would anyone want one, the pack and lighter are right here." Setting the lighter down on top of the pack, he would walk around behind the receptionist desk and sat down in the chair. Setting the rifle on his lap, he kicked his feet up onto the desk as he looked out the front doors and the windows. He realized that they were pretty much out in the open. Thinking for a moment, he kicked his feet off and stood up. "Boss..." Going around, he would have her arm wrap around his neck as he lifted her up and walked her to behind the thick heavy desk. "...sit behind here. Don't want you out in the open."
He had a smile on his face as he helped her down into the leather chair that he was just sitting in. Looking at Clancy, he took the chair Tegan was sitting in and placed it next to his leader. Another plume of smoke came from his nose as he stood there with his rifle in his arms, ready for combat. His eyes went over to Hyatt and a thought came to his mind. Thinking for a moment, he would just say. "Semper Fi." If his gut instinct was right, Hyatt would reply to it with a call back.

Hyatt turned just his head to look at Preacher over his shoulder upon hearing the call of motivation the Marines used back in the day of the living age, turned a bit more to have a better look at the man with simple look of intrigue, before his lips parted and moved, vocalizing his own reply to the man's call.
"Semper Fi. Fortis Fortuna Adiuvat," he said back towards Preacher, his cool eyes meeting his before looking to Tegan again, and then back out the entrance of the museum, taking Preacher's suggestion to heart and kept a clear look around the outside, constantly switching his view from rooftop to rooftop, from building to building that he could see would give a good vantage point for a sniper or an ambush.

For a few moments, Tegan wondered what was going on as Preacher - soon joined by both Thomas and Elise - helped move her to a more comfortable sitting chair; as she sat down, her trusty shillelagh next to her, she smiled. "Thanks, guys," she said, easing back into the chair - which had the advantage of being in a more secure area than her previous chair. Looking around, she saw Clancy sitting down nearby, along with Thomas, who'd taken up a standing position nearby. Remembering the rescue mission that was currently ongoing, she looked over towards Thomas. "Thomas, check with Preacher on the rescue mission; find out where they're at thus far," she said to him; the last thing she wanted was to be kept in the dark, especially with another Scout's life in the balance outside....

Maintaining his position nearby as Tegan's close-in bodyguard, Thomas called out over to Preacher. "Preacher, Tegan wants to know how the rescue mission's going," he asked. It sucked in a sense passing messages verbally between people but he rationalized it by figuring that if the boss wanted to know what was going on, she could either cut in over the radio and ask or pass a message to Preacher and have him check, thus keeping off the radio and keeping the channels free to traffic in either direction.
