Cara was fully behind this plan to get clean now and so she walked straight behind the curtain and started undressing. Her dress was discarded and thrown on the ground. She started humming the my little pony theme song as she gently pulled Sammy's skin off of herself and sat it on top of her dress. It was neatly folded.
She hadn't seen her skin for so long that it was almost awkward. She didn't know what her body looked like any more. Her eyes passed a scar on her hip and she tried to push back the memory attached to it.
"Mommy, Daddy, you won't let anyone hurt me right? Especially not someone who likes little girls too much right..."
For the first time the tremor in her voice was real. She wasn't acting but honestly having a moment of vulnerability. She quickly stuffed that face back into her body and put her dress back on so she could come out and wait for the water.
Holly watched Lach come over and sit on her bed, and was completely shocked when the girl went back to the bath area all on her own. Holly stood in front of Lach and leaned over to whisper to him," she is crazy but that was way too easy." Holly straightened up as the girl spoke to them. Her eyes drifted down to Lach. As if to say, answer her.
A knock on the door and Holly moved to open in. Two guards came in with a bucket of steamy water in each hand, four total. She told themto leave them and go. After that question there was no way she was letting them go back and pour the water in the tub. After the left,Holly looked back at Lachland,"help me pour this."
Lachland nodded when Holly looked at him to speak, "of course sweet. I won't anyone who likes little girls hurt you," he said this with the upmost truth. He would harm anyone who was into that. "Same as I would not let anyone harm your momy." He was glad at how fast this was going, the sooner they left the better.
Lachland looked at the little girl through the screen. "Does she really want me back there? Won't it be awkward," he knew why Holly wanted him back there. He grabbed two of the buckets and walked back to help her pour them into the tub.
Cara wanted to see her new dress Before she got in the bath.
"Did they bring my dress? I wanna see it... please," she drew out the word please much longer then she really needed to but she didn't care. She was super excited. She wondered where they would put Sammy's skin, she needed them to keep it safe.
"Daddy can be back here when I'm taking a bath, it's ok."
Holly stared at her as she rounded the corner with her bucket,"no,Daddy is jist helping me fill the tub, he will go out once you are ready to get it." She glanced at Lachland as the girl demanded tosee her dress," well, daddy's men haven't brought it yet. How about we get ready ,while the water is nice and warm, then he can bring it to me just as soon as it arrives and I will show you. " Holly was trying," did you pick a soap," she pointed to a few bottles on a small stand by the tub," you can use any you like." Holly glanced at the skin folded and felt bile rise in her throat.
"My men are idiots don't expect the dress anytime soon," Lachland said. "But that being said I'm sure they'll hurry for you sweet." He smiled at holly and Cara. As he poured the water he set the bucket down beside the tub. He stepped back to let the girl bathe in private.
"I'll wist for the dress here," he said sitting on the edge of the bed. He saw holly glance at the skin but decided to not look down at it. If he ignore it maybe it would go away. "When you two are finished just tell me."
Once Lachland had left she took her dress off again. Holly would probably see the scar on her hip but she hoped she would ignore it. Cara felt weak in this moment and something strange happened to her. She didn't want to be the psychotic little girl in this moment. She wanted to be the 8 year old that hadn't done any of the things that had twisted her mind.
She leaned over and kissed Holly on the cheek. Her whole posture had changed. She wasn't standing like the killer, she was standing like a scared 8 year old who's parents had just told everything would be ok.
"Thank you mommy. I'm sorry I got mad earlier. I was just scared. I'll try and be good."
With that she turned around and crawled into the bath. The water was warm and she enjoyed it. She reached over and grabbed one of the bottles of soap. Lifting the lid she smelled it and it smelt like roses. She smiled and dumped some into the water, she splashed her hands a little to make bubbles.
She could not believe Lachland was leaving her alone with her. Least he was just beyond the curtain if things got out of hand. She was shocked by the change in the child, and stared at her.
Once Cara was in the tub, Holly got down on her knees. She picked up a small cup and moved behind the girl, 'tilt your head back , Darling, so I can wash your hair." She used the cup and ran water down Cara's head, wetting her hair. Holly grabbed some shampoo and worked up a lather, and scrubbed the child's hair good. Using the cup to rinse it as well. She couldn't get over how sweet she was being, and how calm.
It didn't take long to wash her. Holly let the child do most of it herself, only helping to get her back. Holly stood a little later, and held up the bucket, she poured slowly and rinsed the soap off of the girl. after she held up a large towel, 'Alright, Cara, step out so we can dry off." She dried her hair and lead the girl to her vanity, where she sat her down and combed through her hair, "I will try to not hurt you, but you have some tangles , sweetheart." She worked as slowly as she could til her hair was free of tangles, 'It really needs to be trimmed, then you wouldn't get tangles." She was stalling as long as she could, hoping Lach's men showed up with the dress.
Lacchland hold a knock at the door. Slowly standing up he walked his long paces and pulled it open. There before him wa some of his guards. "Pretty dress for you boss. But didt wan her to catch cold. . Brought her a jacket too. And some boots," the guard said handing them over.
Lachland smiled, "good my comrade. You have done as I ask. The good lord smiled down upon us today. Blessed us with these gifts. May whoever these items belong to rest peacefully where eve they are."
He closed the door in the guard face. Stepping back behind the curtain he cleared his throat, "the dress has been delivered as well as a few winter items," Lachland said holding them out for Holly to take. "I will continue to wait out here until you two are finished.
The bath was nice, and though at times the brushing hurt at times she pushed through it with only a small whimper here and there. She looked at her new dress and smiled. It was black like the one she had before but it was nicer then her old one. It might actually be too nice. If she knew the story well enough then they had been out there for a while now.
"Mommy, isn't the dress too nice? I really like it and don't want to mess it up but won't the people at the lake think something is wrong if I look too good?"
Once she mentioned the bear lake camp she started shifting back into her normal persona. She put on the dress and the jacket. She hadn't realized how cold it was until she put it on. She had gotten so used to always being cold that she didn't even realize when she was anymore. She walked out and tugged on Lachland's arm. When he looked she spun around in a circle.
"Thank you daddy. This is a pretty dress."
She was wearing her good girl face but to those that knew her they would still see the monster lurking behind her facade. Her eyes were too alert for a girl her age and if you knew what to look for her eyes held a coldness that no 10 year old should ever have.
Holly watched the child as she spoke about the dress, she was about to respond, when Cara got up and put it on. She worried the girl might not be able to pull this off without getting them all killed. She gave a soft sigh of relief as she went out of the makeshift bathroom and she heard her speaking to Lachland.
Holly knew it was wrong, but let him sit on pins and needles for a little while. She moved around and picked up the dirty towels and Cara's old dress. She tossed them into a hamper near the tub, and then her eyes fell on the skin again. She didn't know what to do with that. She shoved a basin under the tub and pulled the stopper out, letting the water flow til the basin was almost full. She put the stopper back and then dumped the basin into the empty bucket. Holly repeated this til the tub was empty.
Moving over to the curtain, she peered around it, "Did they bring a bag?" she locked eyes with Lack, hoping he would understand what she was asking about. She refused to touch the pile of folded skin on the floor.
"I agree it's a little to clean," Lachland said looking at the little girl when she came out. He nearly smiled when she tugged on his arm. "You are very welcome. It is a very nice dress. Though you will need to wear the jacket. It will make our story more bilievable. Way may need to travel through some dirt though. Get some grime, so it's not so clean."
He watched Holly come over and smiled at her. "There is the dry cleaning bag the dress was located in. It should be with the hanger," he said nodding. He knew what he wanted to do and nodded in approval.
Taking Cara's hand he led the girl out toward the door, away from the skin on the floor. "Why don't we let Holly clean up. We can go talk to Mr. Dolph, see if he is ready for us to depart."
"Daddy, your being silly. Of course I'm wearing the jacket. I have it on right now. It's so warm and cuddly."
She knew that they were worried. Adults always thought that they were masking their emotions but if you paid attention close enough you could see exactly what they were thinking.
"I'd like that, but maybe I should start acting now daddy I mean if I were like one of the dumb little girls that are out there wouldn't I be more scared? I want to get everything right so no one thinks anything is wrong. Can I hold onto your hand and hide behind you?"
BB had done it--he'd managed to organize a meeting between Adolphus and the leader of this...cult movement. The combined forces could be enough to take Bear Lake. And with Lachland, Holly, and Cara, Adolphus and his men would have help from the inside. Trusted members of the community to sabotage Bear Lake prior to the assault. Hide the weapons. Kill some guards. They'd have it.
Sitting at his desk, Adolphus could hear Lachland and Cara outside his door--and it sounded as if they were approaching. Immediately he stood, making his way to the door. He equipped his friendliest of smiles as he pressed down on the door's handle, allowing it to swing open. "Come in, come in!" He smiled at Cara. He knew Cara wasn't a foolish, normal girl. Far from it. He didn't need to act friendly and fatherly, but she did. And if she was expected to do so, she needed to be around someone who did as well. He looked up to Lachland. "I presume...she's your daughter?"
"Thank you," Lachland said stepping into the room, his hand still holding Cara's. "I assume Holly will join us soon. We left her to clean up her room. Get out of her hair while she got ready to depart."
He liked down at the girl in her coat, "we decided she's be better if she wasn't out daughter. We found her. After Holly and I lost our own child," he said saddened, already getting into character. "We found Cara. Protected her as if she was our own."
Looking up he smirks at Dolph. His hand ruffled Cara's hair, "isn't that right sweet. We kept you safe. Protected you from harm. But we're tired and sore and need a place to stay."
His eyes met Dolphs and he smiled, leaving his character, "I assume this story is sufficent. We can alter it but figured it would suffice. She doesn't nessarily look like the offspring of both of us. Holly and I agreed this would be the best story we could mske believable."
Cara held tightly onto Lachland and positioned herself behind him. She peaked out from where she was to look at Dolph. She of course wasn't really scared but she wanted to show the man that she could maintain the act at all costs.
"I was so scared when daddy found me under the car. I... I had to hide from the bad men." The last part had not been a complete lie. She had actually had to do it once before meeting Nikolai. "But daddy saved me. Momma was back in the car. She was said because of Ella. I never got to meet Ella. Mommy and Daddy said she was really sweet."
She inched a little further out from behind Lachland, as if she was starting to get more comfortable and bold. She looked up at Dolph but quickly lowered her head. She probably shouldn't look new people in the face. None of the other children she had ever seen had looked straight into the eyes of anyone.
"Mommy and Daddy do a really good job taking care of me... but I'm so hungry. I wish we could just find a nice safe place. It is scary out there. Maybe a nice place by a lake."
She wanted to give an evil smile at her own little joke but she needed to keep the act, at least until one of the men indicated that she could in fact drop the act. She got it when Lachland was straightforward with Dolph, asking if the story was sufficient.
"When you come with your people... can I make some pets in the camp Mr. Dolph?"
Holly heard them leave. She just stood and stared at the skin on the floor. After what felt like forever, she got the bag the dress had come in and did her best to put the vile display inside without touching it.
Holly tied it neatly and found an old back pack to stick it in. She figured the kid would want the nasty fucking thing with her. She ran a hand through her hair and looked around. How did she get into this mess? No! Dolph had been kind to her. Taken care of her like his own child. She shouldn't think like that. She finished cleaning up and stared at herself in the mirror. God she looked so different. She stripped and stood before the mirror. Turning to take it all in. She ran her hand down her ribcage ,over jer flat abdomen and pointy hip bones. Fuck, she was too thin.
Holly grabbed some clothes off the rack and slipped them on. The pants rested on her hip bones, and the shirt hung on her a bit. It would have to do. There was a gap between the shirt and the waist of the pants showing her belly a bit. She frowned, but slipped her boots on and laced them. Feeling a bit better, she went off after Lach and Cara. Her family, yea , the fucked up Adam's family more like it. It made her chuckle as she entered Dolph's office.
Adolphus smiled--possibly the widest he'd smiled since arriving in Colorado. He'd picked the perfect people for the plan. He approached Lachland and gave him a hard slap on the back, still holding his smile. "Well done...If I didn't know you were lying to my face, I'd believe you!" He lowered his arm and focused on Cara. The girl's testimony had been just as convincing as her...adoptive father's. "Girl, you do this for me and you will have as many pets as you'd like!" He meant it. If the three people--Lachland, Holly, and Cara--could pull this off, they'd have Adolphus' good graces forever. In a sense, they already did. But if they were to do this, they'd want for nothing.
Holly entered the room, chuckling. "Good to see you laugh," he nodded to the woman. Adolphus was in a particularly good mood. "I trust you all know your roles, you've certainly convinced me. I can have someone drop you off a half mile or so from Bear Lake, and from there you walk to the main gates."
Adolphus paused, surveying the trio. He wanted to make sure everyone understood thus far before continuing to explain his plan.

Lachland clasped his hands together. "Then we should leave right away. I've been packed since you told us the plan. I say we leave now. The sun still shines, and the birds are still in the sky."
Lachland looked at Holly and Cara, "are you two ready to leave? We can depsrt anytime. If we leave now best lake should be reached just before sundown. They won't let a little girl sleep out in the cold night, this should further a chance at our acceptance into the lake."
He smiled, "thank you for this opportunity Dolph. We won't let you down. Won't we Family?"
Cara clapped her hands. She was excited about the possibilities of what she could do after all of this. She imagined a room twice the size of the one she had back at the safe house, filled with pets. It was like music to her. She could hear the growling already and the occasional scream as she fed her pets. She liked to be in the room with her pets while they ate but as an extra precaution she would always spread extra blood and guts on herself because the pets get a little crazy when they eat. She shook her head remembering when she had been forced to put one down to save herself she didn't like the feeling, not at all.
"Thank you Mr. Dolph."
She ran over to Holly and wrapped her arms around her. She had started to actually see the woman as a type of mother figure. Maybe Holly would even come around, given time, and see her as someone to be cared for. She was a twisted little girl but she still had nerds that required a mom.
Shauna Kelly: That helped, thank you
