Lachland was at the bar, his feet on a table in the corner and toothpick in his mouth. This was where he was most at home. He was at ease, he ran the bar. No one fucked with him here. He took the toothpick out and smiled, if he wanted to he could end most of these men to his will. They'd do what ever he wanted.
Beside him stood two mountain of men. They towered over the average person. They were his protectors, his shields.
Lachland had asked Holly to speak with him here. They neeede a plan, a new story to fool the people of the lake. He thought that little girl, what was her name? Carly? Carla? Carrie? He thought she should come with them. People are more welcoming to kids.

Holly was less than thrilled by this new venture she was to set out on, but it seemed that is what Dolph wished of her and she would do it to please him. The man he had stuck her with , Lachland , was not without his own strengths. She just wished for more time. Time to ease into the new role of hers. Holly had been a recluse when the world went to hell, and her ability to play a role had come in handy. She would switch personalities to fit what was needed, expected. Sure, people thought the bitch was nuts. If they truly knew, they would probably just flat out kill her.
Holly walked into the bar, and headed straight for Lachland. Eyes dancing over the scene. He had guards, good, that meant he was afraid of her. Scared to be alone with her, even better. Without hesitation, she moved straight to him around the table, slipping into his lap. She ran a hand through his hair and down the side of his cheek. Her head dipped and she kissed him on the lips, 'You wanted to speak to me, husband?' She smirked at him, then glanced at the two large men and pouted, "Now tell me, how are we supposed to consecrate this marriage with these two following you around?" She stared at Lachland's face.
"They are only here for the bar. It's not you in worried about. You don't gain friends without gaining a few enemies. After all the enemy of a friend is my enemy," Lachland said folding his hands. when she ran her finger through his hair he didn't even flinch. He made little movemet and stared straight ahead. "We are not married," he said his words having some bite to it. "Unless we do it formally we are not married. It is all pretend. I want you to know that." His eye narrowed and he kept his gaze away from her. "We will not consecrate it unless it is demanded. I will play along with the game but I will not give myself to you. Unless wed by God it will not happen."
Holly stared at him then frowned and got out of his lap. She did not sit however,Holly stood and stared at him."whatever you say,but you are gonna wanna thaw out before we go over to that camp." Her he was preaching god, this was going to be interesting to say the least.
"Look figure it out, whatever story you want ,I can work with, but you better be able to handle that crazy kid,I am not a mother or a babysitter." Holly smirked at him and turned to leave. Fuck him and the rest of them, she would do what she needed to to ensure her survival and that was it.
"But you are a mother now," Lachland said raising to follow her. "We found her and raised her a our own. Without that commitment it will just be a sham." He walked up to her and his goon went to follow. He simply waved them off and apporached her side. "If I'm willing to be your husband you will be this girl's mother. Our plan can't work otherwise."m
He looked her up and down. "I will thaw out before we get there. I just need to know you're committed to being my wife. You are essential to the plan. Without you it isn't believable. We need to work out a story. It can't be solid unless you cooperate. With you storming out it sets an example our relationship is unstable. Now how long have we been together. We need to make up that time in a night. We leave tomorrow."
"Your friend A... Adolph... Dolph, told me that he wanted me to meet you. He asked if I liked acting. I didn't tell him but of course I like make believe. All little girls like make believe."
She let go of holly and started twirling her hair. Clean her up and she would be the perfect sweet angel.
She wished they were inside somewhere, she really just wanted to sit down. If she was younger she might have asked holly to pick her up but maybe it was a good thing she didn't. She didn't want to push this woman to far too fast.
Holly felt Lachland grab her and turn her to face him. Who the hell did he think he was? Now he was acting like she was the problem. He was the one being nasty to her with his icy stare and cold words. She had been trying to get into character. Screw this. "I know exactly what is needed and expected of me, I was in character, you're the one being Frosty the snowbitch, not me. So I backed off, gonna let you come up with your grand ideas and now you're acting like I'm the problem. ' Holly glared at him,and poked his chest. 'Listen asshole and listen real fucking good,Father chose me for this because I've had more experience lying and playing the role of someone else than anyone else her,so let me school you on something,' she moved closer and whispered,"if anyone is gonna fuck this up,it's you. You don't treat a loving wife like that. Especially one you've been lucky to survive with. Most men here would give their left nut to have had their woman to have survived this shit and you should start acting lile it." Holly smirked at him and stepped back.
As she moved back from him,she felt arms wrap around her leg. She froze for a moment, realizing it was the girl. In truth she gave Holly the creeps, but Holly instantly fell into character like one would slip into a pool of warm water." Aw,of course we are friends, more than friends, sweetheart. ' She lowered down a bit to be on eye level with her," we are gonna be a family, a mommy and daddy and their special little girl." Holly glanced at Lachland as she spoke,"isn't that right,my love?' She showed no sign of the pissed off woman from a moment ago. Just for a split second her eyes sharpened at Lach ,as if to say, fuck with me.
Lachland was taken back. He didn't touch her, or make any notion to. His words were soft and gentle. Never once did he raise he voice or use an accusing tone. He was about to argue back when the little girl came in. He looked at her and smiled. He appearance creeped him out, but he showed now signs of it. He knew she was just misunderstood, he could live with that.
"Yes love, a happy family," he said smiling at the pair. His eyes spoke truth as he looked at them. He wanted to show he wasn't the problem here. He could handle himself. It had been lie after lie anyway. What does a few more hurt.
He crouched down beside Holly and put an arm around her waist. He reached out and brushed a lock of hair away from her face. "Why don't we get you cleaned up. As pretty and sweet as you are others might not think so. We need to make the believe," he said smilling. He raised up, letting go of Holly. He glanced at her back and then down at the ground. "Come my love," he said extending her hand, "let's go find out sweet little girl some new attire."
"Ooh, I like this game," The little girl said excitedly.
She took a good long look at Holly and smiled. She was very pretty, which made her happy. Her mommy had to be pretty, because how else would she have made such a beautiful little girl, it just wouldn't make sense.
"Are you my real mommy or did you and daddy find me?"
She wanted to get her story straight just as much as they did so she would ask the questions that she needed to know. She grabbed Holly's hand. they wanted to get her cleaned up though and that caused her to freak out.
"No no no no no no. If I clean up I won't smell right and my pets won't like me no more. They'll try to eat me. How can I have pets if the try to eat me. I'll never find Sammy again if I smell wrong."
She turned around and stomped her foot. Tears were streaming down her face for the first time since almost the beginning of all of this.
Holly almost went rigid as Lachland touched her, but she focused and allowed it. She accepted the girls hand and when she asked her question, Holly smiled down at her, "No...my baby died, our baby died, and when we found you, we just couldn't let anyone bad hurt such a darling little girl, and now you are our little girl, even if I did not give birth to you, I couldn't love you any less."
Once the girl started crying and freaking out about getting a bath, Holly stared at Lachland. She wanted to deep down bust the kids ass, but she couldn't do that, now could she? She nodded her head at Lachland, the girl holding her hand. Holly lowered herself, "Darlin, now listen to me, for this game to work, we need you to be cleaner, how about we think of it this way." Holly smiled and spoke softly to the girl, "I know it scares you, but we won't take it all away, and then, you get a chance to make new pets, once we play the game to the end? Mommy and Daddy will help you." Holly was trying, anything she could think of, and hoping it worked. If the girl continued to balk, this would become a real problem.
Lachland saw Holly stiffen but just ignored it. "We want to keep you safe. You're out little girl." He smiled at her warmingly and looked at Holly, his wife.
When Cara stared fteaming out he put and hand on the girls shoulder. "You just need to be clean to fool the bad people at the lake. The people won't like us if we aren't clean. As bad as it sounds I don't want us to be clean for them either. We shouldnt have to change. I promise you can go back tonnormal when we are done. Once we habe finished for Dolph it will be normal again." He tried to reassure her. "We will get knew pet when we are done the game."
She shouldn't have freaked out but the thought of cleaning up and not smelling right just seemed completely wrong. What would she do if a boogeyman attacked her. She had never been made to kill one except for Sammy and she felt so bad about having to do that. It was why she had started wearing his skin. She couldn't live with the thought that he was gone forever. She had loved her little brother even more then she had loved her parents. She was about to argue with Holly but then Lachland chimed in.
"You don't need to tell me their bad people Daddy," She said smiling. She didn't need any excuse to hurt people. "Mr Dolph doesn't like them right?"
She grabbed at her dress with anxiety trying to find the courage to do what she needed to do. They had been so nice to her and Dolph liked her for who she was and they had food and they could kill her but the hardest thing she could imagine was washing herself.
"As long as Daddy promises to help with the pets."
She visibly calmed.
"Don't lose this though," She said, revealing the skin she wore under her dress.
Holly had to draw on every ounce of her determination to not let go of this child's hand. She found her utterly revolting and truthfully the little girl scared the fuck out of her, but she had to do this. She was glad when Cara focused on her 'Daddy" and Holly was forgotten. She found herself calming a bit as the child seemed to agree to the "game" and what they needed her to do. That was until she lifted her dress. Holly had to bite her lip to keep silent. Her eyes just stared, hardly able to believe what she was seeing. It was flesh, human flesh. This girl was more than just creepy, she was insane. She glanced over at Lachland, to see his reaction. If he looked back, he would see the evidence of the lengths she was going to to keep control, as a trickle of blood ran from the corner of her mouth. Holly felt it and lifted her hand to wipe it away.
"Was just trying to combine you sweet," Lachlad said to the little girl. "Mr dolph despises them. And we need to help mr. Dolph."
Lachland watched her show the loose skin. It was revolting and made his stomach churn. He let out a breath but didn't say anything. He turned to look at Holly and could see she felt the same way. Seeing the blood run out of her lip Lachland pulled the handkerchief from his pocket and dabbed it away. He then turned his gaze back to the girl.
"We will have to keep that here. As much as you need it, the lake people weren't understand. Is that okay sweet," he asked calmly. "Dolph will keep it safe here. You don't need it out there. We will keep you safer than any pet ever could."
Some amount of grace must have been present because the little girl completely missed her "parents'" reaction to Sammy's skin. She doubtless would of had a reaction had she noticed. As it were she was starting to be happy again
"Daddy never promised he would help make pets,"she said, looking up at him. "Mommy, you gotta make him promise."
She looked around at the water building. It was so big that it really did look like a castle to her.
"This place is like a castle," She whispered to herself. Nikolai would really like it here. She wished he was with her right now.
Her knife was still dripping with blood and so she wiped it off on her dress. If she was going to get clean anyways she might as well give them something to really clean, of course her dress was next to useless at this point. It was so stained and torn that they would almost certainly have to find a new one.
"Mommy can we go dress shopping. I gotta be pretty for our game."
Holly didn't move one muscle as Lach dabbed at the corner of her mouth, her eyes fixated on the child. She started to whine a bit about a promise and Holly shifted her gaze to Lach, "Promise the girl, Daddy." She spoke softly, then let her eyes drift back to the abomination standing before her. She smirked, and let it slide to a smile, 'A dress, well, we will have to tell Grandpa we require a pretty new dress for our special girl. He can see to that while we go and get cleaned up, and it will be waiting for you, all shiny and new, just for you." She glanced over at Lachland, "I think Father can handle that one little detail, don't you?" She smiled at him, but her eyes, spoke of fear. She was maintaining her role, but it was clear when she looked at Lachland that this child scared the hell out of her.
Hooly still held the girls hand, 'Let's go and get a bath now, we can use Mommy's room, and Daddy can come with us, " She shot Lachland a look as she turn, and started to lead the child off to the main building. Dolph had provided Holly with certain amenities, that he had not given to everyone. He wanted to keep Holly close, usually. Her look at Lachland basically told him he better come with, she was not going to left alone with this girl.
Lachland placed a reassuring hand on Holly's shoulder . He saw they way she looked at the little girl. He squezed her shoulder. it looked like harmless touching to anyone watching. But his gaze said it was okay.
"I promise," Lachland said smilig at the girl. "I'll help with all the pets." He was lying after the coup he would ditch the girl. She made him sick. Though his face hid the lies, ecspecially when he smiled. "I'll get you a new dress. Right away."
Lachland rose. He waved over a guard and told him to find the dress for the little girl, or some decet clothes. The guard ran off as he followed the pair. He wasn't leavig Holly alone, imagine what Dolph woul think if she died. He nodde at Holly, again reassuring her.
Cara clapped her hands when Lachland said he would help. She wasn't sure if he was telling the truth but she took promises very seriously.
"You gotta remember your promise Daddy, cause I will," she had dropped the innocent persona entirely. Lachland would undoubtedly know what she was implying.
Her momentary slip out of innocence was gone as quickly as it had come and she was back to the innocent little girl face that she would have to wear for the entirety of their "game". She might not plan ahead like these people did but she was deadly serious and incredibly inventive. She always found a way to fulfill her promises, if Lachland fell through on his promise he would have to hide, and hide very well.
"I can't wait to see my new dress. I wanted a new dress ever since my first mommy and daddy died."
She followed Holly gladly now. She was starting to het excited. If Dolph was really going to attack the place that she was going to go to she could kill a whole lot of people and she would of course let them become pets. She only hoped that she would be able to make herself smell right before the new pets woke up.
Holly resisted the urge to shudder as the girl dropped her innocent act, and she saw the real monster beneath for just a split second. She felt a little better knowing that at least Lachland was standing by her through this, though whether or not he was all that trustworthy was yet to be seen.
Holly headed towards the large main building, and paused just for a moment to speak to one of the guards, 'Karl, would you please fetch me some hot water for my tub? We will be giving the child a bath, so enough for bathing and rinsing, and also, we need a bag." She glanced at Cara and smiled before moving past the sentry post and heading inside. Holly lead the way up several flights, almost to the top floor where Dolph's office sat. She was just two floors below her precious Father figure. Holly opened the door to a large space, that had been redecorated to suit Holly's tastes. A large bed sat in the middle of the room, and beyond that was a large curtain, 'The tub is beyond the curtain." She glanced at Cara, and then pointed to the chairs and sofa to the left, and to the right was racks of clothing, 'Your Grandpa dotes on me, but feel free to look through them and pick anything you like." A small vanity table was set up with a mirror, brush and comb, and several small boxes amidst a few bottles of perfume and lotions.
Lachland followed the pair up to the room. When she asked for water he smiled, it appeared she had more authority than he first expected. The little girl creeped him out, though but he knew that all the guards wouldn't do anything to do harm. They would handle the girl.
He sat on the bed in the room. He didn't expect the girl to form back from the ambush. If she had died in te attack he would be free. If he died he'd be free. He was leavig if he lived anyway, and it was not like she would follow him across the country.
