Sarah frowned, he obviously did not want her making a fuss over him ,alright. She stood back and watched him, trying to help hold the planks as best she could. Her stomach growled, "Hey, are you hungry? I just realized we never ate anything. If you can finish up these last two windows, I can go and make us something, if you want?" She looked at what they had done so far, "That way we can eat then move around to the side of the house, maybe have these done and move on to the next project before sundown?"
Declan got another plank as Sarah spoke up again. "Yeah, sure." He said as he nailed this plank into place. He nudged the stool to the next window with his foot, carrying the plank with him. "So what did you do before all this happened?" He asked as he started to position the plank on the window. He nailed one side on, stepping on the stool for a better angle of the left side of the plank. He nailed that one in. "I don't get how no growlers have shown up yet." He says as he reaches for another plank. He leans back as he reaches, holding onto the other plank as he does. He grabs the plank and pulls it over, balancing it on his knee as he untangles the wire of the nail gun.
Sarah smiled at him,"well,I was a teacher at a Christian Academy in DC. " as he spoke about growlers she looked around, and realized he was right. Sarah bent down and picked up her gun. " I am gonna look around, I don't trust this, you're right. We should have seen some by now with all the noise." Sarah smiled at him and moved around the corner of the porch heading to the back of the house." I'll grab some food on my way around and bring you something." She said over her shoulder as she vanished from view around the side.
He nodded at her as she prepared to go have a look around. "Be safe. Call me if you need help!" He half-shouted as she vanished from his view. He brought his axe closer to him and continued with his work. One last window. He brought a plank over and stepped on the stool positioning the plank for a moment before he began to nail it into place. He hummed a little song as he worked, he finally finished the window and stepped back to see how it looked. He went around the windows as he pulled on the planks. They were sturdy enough, Declan sat down on a chair with his axe in his lap.
Sarah was feeling pretty confident. She missed the others, but she needed to prove to herself she could handle this. She eased around the side of the house, along the porch. Eyes scanning the field to her right, just to be sure. She didn't see anything, so she moved forward, along the side. She stood at the back corner, and leaned out to check. Sure enough, a growler was wandering among the buildings. It must have been attracted to the banging from the hammer earlier. Sarah raised her gun and took aim, just like charles had taught her.
She took a deep breath and exhaled slowly as her finger squeezed the trigger. The head of the dead man exploded out the back and it fell to the ground. She almost squealed she was so excited. She was about to move further away from the house, when she saw the tall grass in the field move. Sarah stopped and she stared at it, moving off the porch, gun raised.
Declan was sitting on the chair examining his axe. It was in optimal condition, no rust or anything. He put it to the side and took his phone from his pocket. He powered it up. Very low battery, he quickly began to type another little log entry into his phone saying he had finally settled into the farm. Just as he put it away he heard the gun shot. He threw himself off the chair twisting. He sat there for a moment then realised. Sarah! It's not going to be good if the others come back and she's dead. Declan stood grabbing his axe. He started to run, he forgot he had placed the planks on the floor earlier on. He tripped and smashed into the doorway. He lay sprawled out on his stomach, the axe slid across the floor slightly. He was out cold.
The roar of The semi engine was loud and abrupt. Darcy walked toward the stated car, his arms dragging at his sides. Reaching around he pulled a man from the passenger seat and crushed in his head with the heel of his boot. Blood shot upnand pooled around him. "I call shotgun," he said a he pointed the gun, a shotgun, at the driver. Pulling the trigger the drivers head errupted and the window blew out. Darcy smiled and pointed the gun at the back, "you mother fucker drive," he yelled.
Darcy waited until Enio got it, "leave your fucktoy alone. Bring your boys, and the bitch. There may be normies in the field.
When they were all in the driver took off, the semi pulling the trailer behind them.
----
The semi pulled into the farm. They had been here once before. It was a small group of people, mostly men. They had fought against him. A women, young had Attacked on of his men, they foollessly killed her. They strung up other in the barn then forced the farmer to off himself and his wife, after a little fun that is.
Darcy steppe out, gun in hand. There was a new car here, the only reason they stopped. "Lucy, you got some s'plainin' to do," Darcy said yelling out as he shot the gun in the air. "Enio, go find these people. Remember if the sit to pee, string them up for me. If they dangle, blow their head at a fucking angle."
When would this man ever seem even remotely sane? Everything he did seemed to be to an extreme that was completely unnecessary. Why the hell did he have to blow the man's head off? It was stupid. At thus rate he would quickly run out of people to do his bidding.
"Got it boss," he said looking to Blake, Ari, and Kale. "Looks like the boss wants the A team along. Blake, have one of the men you trust at my door. Let him know that if anyone touches my property I will make what I did to George look like a day at the beach."
It took less then a minute for Blake to make it happen and they all loaded up into the vehicle. There was still blood from the original driver and Enio was freaking out. He couldn't let his weakness show though so he did his best to simply avoid the blood. Damnit, he thought, another set of perfectly good clothes gone.
The drive to the farm didn't take long. It had been a particularly nasty piece of business the last time they had been here and he was loathe to come again but like always the boss got what he wanted and if what he wanted was this then that is what he would get. Enio was a little off today. Something about Darcy had seemed even more unhinged lately, if that was even possible, and he had seen some of the men eyeing Blake like they did the woman they brought back. Maybe it would be best if he sent Blake out on a mission when they returned to the junkyard. He wouldn't have her defiled.
"Got it boss," he responded to Darcy's orders. He would have rather just passed the farm up, with only one car he doubted that there was anything worth while here.
"Let's move, tight formation. That gunshot is bound to draw in some walkers."
They moved in near perfect symmetry, something they had practiced over the year that they had been together. The formation was strange without George but the man had gotten what was due. Darcy was insane, but Enio made up for his relative sanity with his actions. Actions meant always to ensure total loyalty in the men and woman he led. He would never meaninglessly take a life under his command but if you pushed him to the point of necessity he would ensure that you were made an example of.
They moved behind the barn and spotted the woman. She looked scared, probably from the gunshot but she also had a gun. He motioned for Ari to circle around the back to catch the woman off guard. Kale stayed back, his sniper aimed at the woman's chest, and Enio and Blake moved in. Blake was amazing at putting woman off of their guard. She was rough along the edges but the site of a man and woman together always seemed to ease the situation. They stepped out from behind the barn and approached the woman.
"Sorry about the gunshot ma'am, seems we ran into a walker that was a little too close for comfort." It was a lie of course, but the blood on his clothes would give a small amount of truth to it, hopefully enough to put the woman off guard. Either way the only thing they really needed was her attention.
"This is a fine farm you have. Is it just you or are there others? I would love to meet them if there are."
As soon as her attention was focused on them Ari came up behind her and slammed the pommel of his combat knife into her temple, most likely knocking her out in one hit.
"Ari, secure her. We need to check for more."
He motioned for Blake to move forward and rejoin the formation. They moved forward until they found the man that had hit his head and passed out. Enio bent down to check his pulse. It was there and he was drawing his blade to end the man when he was interrupted.
Sarah saw movement coming out of the corner of her eye. She shifted her aim to the figures moving from near the barn. A large male and a female. For a moment, Sarah caught herself easing her finger from the trigger, but she recovered quickly. Charlie taught her better than that, she scolded herself.
The male spoke to her, "No, I am not alone." She spoke, and then glanced to her side, but it was too late. She had caught the slight movement, just a second before the impact to her head. Sarah crumpled, her gun falling to the ground next to her.
Darcy grabbed Enios wrist, "don't touch him," he yelled. "Let him sit, deal with loading his girl." He laughed still gripping the mans wrist, "it's an order. He stood and stalked off to the new girl. His hands wrapped around her throat, pressing down on her air way. He wished she was awake so he could see the fear in her eyes.
'Moving aways from the girl he spat and looked at Enio's men. "What one of you hit her," Darcy yelled. He looked at Kale, "anwser me," he said grabbing the man by his collar. "Or I'll gut you."
The man motioned toward Ari, knowing that Darcy would go against Enio and would kill him. He wasn't a coward, but he wasn't stupid either.
Darcy walked toward Enio's other man. He woud up and punched him square in the face. It was hard enough to draw blood and would leave a nasty bruise. Darcy smiled and looked at the rest of them. "Load the new bitch up. Strap her up. I want to have fun with her when we get back. You three ruined it for me."
Darcy climbed into the semi and slammed the drivers head against the wheel. "Let's move people," he said sticking his head out the window.
The moment Darcy grabbed his arm was almost the moment that Enio had enough, and he almost laid the man flat where he stood. He understood orders and would have backed down if the nut job had simply spoken the command. Laying hands on him was almost more then he could stand.
Enio had finally had enough of the man's insanity and even worse he had assaulted one of Enio's men, for something that had happened many times before. Hell, when Enio had claimed his pet she had been knocked out by the impact of the semi. He could have killed them both but a little bump on the head to secure his stupid little butterfly and he had decided to hit Kale, obviously not daring to hit Ari, who likely would have killed him on the spot.
When Darcy decided to stick his fucked up face out of the semi Enio climbed the step that it would take to put him in range. He hauled off and decked the man in the face. It wasn't fill force but it would definitely leave the man with a black eye and would likely slam his head into the other side of the semi's window. He stepped down and ordered his people to load up in the back to secure the girl.
"Before you go throwing punches at my men remember who gave them their orders, boss."
He loaded up into the semi and stared at Darcy. He would definitely be sending Blake out on assignment , namely to locate them a new home for when shit went down, which he was sure was coming up sooner then he expected. He owed Darcy his loyalty but like George had done Darcy would soon push the limits of that loyalty, and when he did one of them would end up dead.
Darcy flew back when the fist hit his face. Blood poured from his mouth and he spat it in the windshield. His face was all bruised and a tooth had been knocked out. Blood pooled and dried around his lips. He just began to laugh. Laughing as if he was just told the funniest joke in the world. Though he was laughing his eye was blank, giving a blank stare as it always had.
The driver waited until they were all in the semi before he took off down the road, Darcy still laughing.
"You think you're somethig. You're nothing. Youre a bitch. A dog on a leash," Darcy said to Enio. "I own you I own all of you." He liked straight ahead, his laughing suddenly stopping. "Let's get this piece of shit home. I want a taste of this new one."
With that the truck drove down the road towards the camp.
