======== 2 days before outbreak day.... When the attacks on the news first started ==========
The clock read 1:03am as Melody swept the lobby.. The little movie theater was open late for a double feature of two films from an independant film festival. Both titles horror movies.. "Final Resting Place" and the other movie was called "They Live Below The Lake." Melody didn't mind the late shift. She suffered from chronic insomnia... Her eyes wrinkled and baggy as she stood beneath the neon organge glow of the consession stand sign.. Melody swept the floor and quietly thought about what it'd be like when this place closed it's doors. She had been coming to this theater since she was a little girl. Ever since she could remember Friday night was movie night and her and her parents would come to this theater and see something, usually very family friendly and that was ok. The point was this theater had been a huge part of her life and now it was going to be shut down by the end of the month...Melody felt the warm, wet felling of tears on her cheek as she swept. The movie let out and a group of teens maybe a little younger than her walked into the lobby... Obviously not staying for the second film.. They were laughing and talking amongst themselves about how bad the movie was and how it was so cheesy they didn't even want to stay for the second one.. One of them Melody had heard them say "Yeah this place sucks i'm glad it's closing down!" Jerks. She thought as she leaned the broom against the counter...
Melody: Hey Allen! I'm going to have a smoke ok? I'll be right back in.
Stepping out into the cool night the wind wipped her hair around furiously... Melody shivered under her light black jacket against the bracing cold and lit her cigerette.. She loved Cheesy horror. That was the best kind of flick to watch. The ones with the buckets of fake blood and bad acting. Melody loved horror movies but she had been known to be a bit of a fraidy cat. So the cheesey ones were much more enjoyable to her than the creepy ones. She took a puff of her smoke and blew out a cloud that quickly disapated in the wind.... She wouldn't be off work until the next flick finished. Even though she doubted there was even anyone still left to watch it... She checked her phone... One new text message... it was from mom. Text: "Chicken Pesto in the fridge heat it up honey, don't eat it cold. Love mom" She smiled a bit. She watched as the asshole teens got in their car and sped out of the parking lot one of the yelling something out the window. Bunch of idiots... She put out her smoke and stepped back inside... The outside of the theater was pretty run down but the inside was pure magic. She looked at the neon lights and purple and orange painted walls... The lit up movie posters and cardboard cutouts of action heros standing 8 feet tall! This place was a dream to her and sadly the dream was coming to an end... She started back over to the broom and grabbed it meaning to finish sweeping the lobby when Allen stepped out from behind the counter.
Melody: I'm about to finish sweeping this up and then i'm going to check the theaters and...
Allen: Don't bother. It's just you and me here Melody.... There ain't a customer in sight. * He said running his old tired hand across the glass countertop* This place will be gone soon, and no one will care then if the theater rooms are clean. Why don't you catch the second film? Go on i have to count the registers. I'll lock up you go watch the movie. You know. You've been coming here since you were a little girl, and i really appreciate that kido; i know you're going to miss this place as much as me when it's gone.
Melody: You sure Allen?
Allen: Yeah, go on! Enjoy the movie.... We can lock up for the night when you get done. At least someone will enjoy the movie tonight...
Smiling a bit she gave Allen a hug. Allen was more than her boss, he had been like her uncle growing up. Uncle Allen. He would sometimes allow her into see the movies for free when she was in her earlier teen years just because he knew her family and he liked them. Hell, her dad was his dentist. The Miller's were good people. Melody walked through the lobby once again checking her phone as she walked.. She had a few text messages from this guy at school Chad. Chad liked her and he wasn't shy about telling her so. She pulled up the texts as she walked down the hall to theater room six where the movie was playing. She was fully expecting it to be something lewd or gross, typical Chad but instead it asked if she had been watching the news.... Heard anything about the attacks... People had been talking about them, but she hadn't paid much attention. So far there were only a few cases of random people getting bit by crazed strangers. Nothing to loose your mind about. People were weird shit like that happened sometimes as weird as it may seem. No one thought someone would run into a building with a bomb strapped to their chest, or shoot up a school until they did. Who knows why people do the weird stuff they do... She quickly text back and shut her phone off and slipped it into her pocket...
Text message: Can't talk at wrk. : )
Melody sat in the middle row and had the place to herself. She kicked her feet up as the opening credits came on. "They Live Below The Lake" It was going to be a very scary one for her, she had a terrible fear of the water from almost drowning when she was 9. Her hydrophobia was pretty bad, and just watching someone in a movie near water made her uncomfortable, but still she sat through it, and halfway tuned out a few times... Allowing her mind to wander about what she was going to do without this place that had become such a huge part of her life. Melody didn't know that only a few days later, this would be the place where her mom got bit. Theater room six, the one she was in right now, would be here; in this magical place that shew loved so much, where her mom's life ultimately ended.
