Roxie heard Kennedy call to her from the porch, told her to be nice to the gay boys lest they yelp like dogs. The sound of his voice, although at a slight distance, blanketed her in a protection that made her stand with confidence before the two men. Kennedy's influence was far-reaching, even when he wasn't around, and the mere boom of his low voice surrounded her in a protective casing. She loomed before the two Asians and could only smirk at Kennedy's words. She had wondered why neither of them looked at her with a particularly kind eye. Even now, in this world, men were men. It didn't matter if they were the men underneath Kennedy, wanderers from the road, or the men at the strongholds that they had come to possess: Roxie was well-taken care of, and it showed in her washed hair, her clear skin, and her clean clothes. She always got the side-eye, even if it was from men underneath the heel of her boot. To see these two men not even blink at her with a hint of lust made much, much more sense now.
Well, wasn't that sweet? Both gay, both Asian, managing to find each other in all this. Or maybe they had always been together. Roxie didn't know. Roxie didn't care. She found it all to be very amusing.
"I'm not gonna hurt the puppies, baby. Don't worry. I'll be good today." She smiled tightly, the opposite of the look that crossed the tall boy's face at her words. A man in the tower in the distance came down and rounded the barn, and Kennedy was quick to follow after him. Even with Kennedy gone, his presence still pressed down on them all like a cement ceiling, lowering to the ground with every passing second.
The smaller Asian boy didn't seem to care. He spouted off about doing everything herself, told her that he didn't have to listen to her. She could only smile at that, her plump lips making little dimples in her cheeks. Amusement danced behind her eyes, and she could only cock her head at the comments. "You've got a pretty big bark for a little guy, huh?"
When he came forward to place the pistol in her hand, her smile tightened and she tucked both weapons away into her shorts. He talked some more shit, didn't seem to want to move his stance. He stared at her with hatred in his eyes, despite this being their initial meeting, and it was clear that he was going to fight her on everything that he could, because he wasn't able to fight Kennedy on anything.
Oh well. His funeral.
She opened her mouth to call for Kennedy, to teach them a lesson, but before she had a chance to, a young raider hopped off of the porch and stormed over. He had been with Kennedy for a while. He was young, he was rugged, and he was aggressive. Roxie had flirted with him on more than one occasion, when she was bored. Having the extra man power worked to her advantage now. He asked if they were giving her a problem, and she turned on the charm.
"Little bit." She gazed up at him with large, pretty green eyes. She played innocent, helpless, as she always did. But this was a man who was already ready to fight, and he didn't need much pushing. But that didn't mean that Roxie wasn't going to lean on him a little. "I'm just trying to get them to help me carry some weapons for Kay, but they're not budging."
He got in the tall boy's face and asked if he needed a lesson in who to listen to. Roxie was going to make a comment about how the only thing he needed a lesson in was English, but before she had a chance to, the smaller boy got in the way to defend him and was subsequently punched in the stomach. Roxie let out a gleeful croon as he crumpled to the ground, and she laughed at the way that the taller boy yelled and moved onto the ground to protect him.
Tapping the crowbar on her shoulder, she moved just behind the raider and watched the way that the taller one cradled his lover, how he tried to shield and protect him. Kennedy was right. There were like fucking mutts. She tilted her head to get a better view of the smaller man, and when she spoke, he would hear her smile before he saw it. "Not too much of a bite though, huh? You ready to stop wasting our time and help me gather the guns, or what?"
