Max met Charlie out by the knight. He looked around at vehicle, it definetly was a beast. He wondered how accurate the bullet proof glass was. But that wasn't why he was here. He needed to talk to Charlie about Abby, about her possible pregnancy. He felt stupid that he let this happen. His brother would be lecturing him right now. Max walked up to Charlie, "listen I didn't mean to call out your plan in there, there's just somethig we need. We only have a certain time limit to get it." He looked around to make sure that Abby hadn't followed him out or that Dec and Addi were trying to snoop. He didn't want anyone knowing, it was bad enough that charlie had to know. Once it was clear he looked the man in the eye. "It's about Abby. We need the morning after pill. Plan B. I know it's stupid but I'm sure you can piece together what happened. That's why I want Abby to come. If we happen to find a pharmacy near there or on the way. If the base has anythig at all, we need to take it. I'm sure you can understand. It might be something you and Sarah need in the future."
Charles was busy checking the oil and looking through their stuff and listened as Max talked. He of course connected the dots, it was easy enough to do so. There was only one reason why someone would need plan b pills.
"Look, don't worry about questioning me. May not like it but I need it occasionally."
He was glad to find that they were fine on oil. They would need to get a quart sooner then later but they were fine for the trip. He started walking to the barn where he had seen the gas can. He was glad they had the gas. Diesel was harder and harder to come by these days. He was afraid they would have to ground the Knight sooner or later but as long as he could hold it off he would.
"If we see a pharmacy we'll stop. Don't think Sarah would use them if it ever cake to that but they'll be good to have as "backup". Not like it's an issue for us... not exactly something that happens."
He grabbed the can and walked back to the Knight. He had realized that if Max took the news of his past badly ot could compromise the mission.
"Look I got something I need to talk to you about before we go out but I need your promise that it stays between us."

"Of course, it doesn't leave my lips," Max said as he leaned on the knight. He half expected a turret or something to pop out when he did. "And you can't say what I siad to anyone. Not Sarah, or even Abby. No one except me and her know. She's already emberassed enough, I don't want it out further. If she asks why we are stopping at a pharmacy. Say I asked you to because we need medicine, bandages, all that cr@p. Which isn't a lie, it is something we need."
He looked at him, "so you and Sarah aren't knocking boots," he asked, "I'm surprised the way she clings to you. She's all over you."
He looked at th knight, "does what you have to tell me include how you got this? If so let me here it, bet it's a hell of a story."
"Nope, we're not really an item. I don't know. I guess surviving together through all this for sk lon Fb has brought us really close."
He filled the tank with what they had of the gas. It wasn't enough to top her off but it would give them the range they needed and more.
"Actually it does," he said, laughing a little. The Knight drew stairs even now.
"Before all this I was in the Government, very high up. The department of Homeland defense to be precise. Director of Policy Enforcement. With everyone that's gone I might technically be president."
He hadn't even ever really thought about that. It was a joke to him now though.

"I can definety tell you two are close. Didn't you two share a bed last night though," he asked. "Thought something would have happened." He paused, "sorry about sticking you in the room with the dead. It probably still stunk to high heavens in there. I honestly didn't think you two would stay very long. That was until I knew you. Knowing that now I'd probably have given you guys the other room. Is cozier."
He watched him top off the gas, "you saw the big drum of diesel right," he asked, "it will keep this thig running. The other farm equipment, could this tow it? Or does the beast top out there?"
When he started talking about his past life Max shut up. He didn't think anything less of him. He half expected him to be the person who killed civilians at the outbreak. Instead he was just a high up command. He almost laughed at the thought. Max didn't know if he should reveal his true colours now, or wait till it was right. He looked up at charles and smiled, "so pres, were you military all your life? Ever serve with a Brian Green? He's from Kansas, was a field doctor. Hell of good guy. Little to trusting, but a good guy."
Max looked down, "since we are doing all this coming clean business I might as well too," he said talking a breath. "Before all this, all the sh!t. I killed peole. That was my job. I tracked people down and killed them if they didn't pay." It felt good to get that off his chest. "All kinds of people. I've taken many lives. Some I regret, other i don't."
Charles just blinked. He was suprised but it didn't really matter to him now. It meant that he would not take the other new badly, or at least he hoped it would.
"It goes beyond that. When the government started taking out civillians I was responsible for ensuring that the order was carried out. The president was alive but we had already lost a lot of the cabinet. By the end of it we had taken somewhere around 100,000 when one of the commanders decided to be humame. We didn't know that it didn't matter if you were bitten. We had taken out somewhere in the numbers of 100 when they started turning. They tore the place apart. I left in the Knight with my driver."

"I assumed as much," Max said. "I could see the death in your face. You'd taken a life before, or helped with it. Something, Abby, Sarah and the others don't have. The pain in the eyes. Some of the people I've dealt with. They had that look. Brian had that look."
He looked at the hood of the Knight. "Your driver? What happened to him," Max asked, "there a chance he's still alive? Or did he bite the dust."
He went back to the discussion about civilians, "how did you gun them down? I dotn remember anything about bombing? Or fire squads? Or burning. How'd you do it. These people, how'd you round them up." he didn't know I he would get an answer, it was probably something he didn't like to talk about.
"We're you in Washington? We're they making a cure," Max asked, "at one point I was going to go there. To help with the cure. Seems stupid now but that was th goal. Never made it."
"He parked, walked out of the car and shot himself in the head."
He said it with a simple matter of fact tone. The next part was a little harder and he knew the man would except it and he wanted to talk about it.
"We told them that they were receiving an innoculation. Complete secrecy. They came in one by one. We told them that they couldn't go back after receiving innoculation and that the inoculated were being housed temporarily. People were so scared they really didn't even think."
He put the tank down. He was glad to hear that there was more. It would keep the Knight going for a while.
"There was work going on to find a cure. We were trying but I don't know how close they were. Remember for a second we thought we had something. It turned out to be fatal in humans. The virus doesn't seem to carry to other species, so we only had human testing."
He waved for Max to come over.
"That was early on. I don't know what happened after that. The CDC all but fell. Hey I'm going to program your prints into the Knight. If something goes wrong you won't need me to get in."
He got in and started messing with the console.
"Put your hand on the screen."
When he had done so he would input the needed commands and get out of the car.

"Abby should have this done too," Max said as he placed his hand. "Though if worker can down to it is chop off your hand to get out." He laughed and looked at Charlie to show he was kidding. "He really shot himself in the head," max asked, "what a p^ssy. No offence, but I can't just see taking that way out. Maybe as a last resort. But he seemed capable still, I mean you are."
He looked over at the tank. "Yeah disel out back and probably some still in the equipment."
What he said about the disease made him frown a little. His group would have gone all that wat for nothing. "That explains why there's no Sinner deer running around. Why we just see humans turn."

"I think everyone's lost some family in all this," Max said, "I know I sure have. But hey my life was hell before all this. sometimes it wasn't much different." H nodded at what he said about the Knight only having one left. "Abby will use that one. I won't take no for that as an answer." He realized he may be becoming a little over protective but he knew Chatlie would see reason. "So Pres should we go get ready to go? I'd like if we didn't leave till the clothes were done. So I could change back into so respectable pants."
"Yeah, I want to get moving as soon as possible but we can definitely wait for the clothes."
He almost stopped there but he saw how protective Max was of Abby and though he planned to come back he couldn't be one hundred percent sure so he looked at the man one more time.
"I need you to promise me one thing. If I don't make it... you protect Sarah as if she is Abby. She won't make it out here alone but the world needs her. We can't all be like me and you. The world needs her kindness."

"I can agree to that. We won't toss her out if that's what you're asking. We'd keep her safe. Though I doubt she'd be stable if she lost you," max said looking at the man. "You have to do the same to Abby. If I don't ever come back you keep her safe. If she does have a child, though I hope to prevent that, watch over the child too." He extended his hand. "Sounds like a deal. You're a good man Pres, don't let this base affect you." Once they shook he stepped back. "So bullet proof glass, what else does this bad boy deal with? Any weaponry?" He moved his arm with his sore shoulder. It hurt but he could handle it for today. It was better than the day before, he could probably two hand a gun today. "What weapons are we taking with us? Way I see it we have the shotgun, a revolver, your guns, and my bow. Now I can't use the bow but if you think you can you be my guest. We'll need firepower at the base. But they need protection here. At least one gun stays with Sarah."
"Thanks, and of course I'll take care of Abby if anything goes down."
He locked up the doors and started heading inside.
"As for the Knight, I wish it had some weapons, we could modify it but it's beyond my knowledge. I'll be leaving the 1911 with Sarah, she doesn't know how to use the mp7 anyways and we'll need it's firepower."
He laughed at his comment about using the bow. He had used one before and was a decent shot when it came to on the range but he doubted he could use it with enough accuracy in a fight for it to be worthwhile.
"Don't have enough experience to make using a bow worthwhile. I'd hit the growlers but probably not in the head."

"Well at least she'll have a gun," Max said as they started to walk inside, "you know. If not to protect from Sinners than from Addi. She seems a little unstable. I'd keep an eye on her," he said as he climbed he steps. "Maybe once we get settled I'll teach you. You can learn to hunt with it. Don't need head shots for that." He opened the door and held it for him. "I'm going to go check on Abby and get ready to go," he said. "You should talk to Sarah reassure her you're coming back."
"You know that sounds like fun, and we'll need the meat so I'm down to learn."
They were at the door and he stopped for a second. He agreed that Addilyn was unstable and it made him nervous to leave Sarah here with the two new people. Declan seemed alright, exhausted but of the good sort.
"Yeah, I'm not sure about her. Hopefully she snaps back a little once she sees it's safe here, if not..." He let his words trail off. He had said it quietly enough so that only Max would hear him but just in case he didn't want to end that statement. Max would likely get the hint anyways.
