At the end of the world, time is meaningless. Minutes slip into hours. Hours blur into days. Days melt into months and before you know it, you've been surviving in this world all alone for three years. Its a funny thing though. Before the world descended into madness, my job was to help people. I loved my job. I was an emergency medicle transport driver working my way through school. I was going to be a nurse. I never wanted to be a doctor, not really. Doctor's have their heads up their asses and have god complexes, that wasn't me. I was all about helping people, and patient care was what nurses specialized in. I saved lives..... well sorta. But now all i do is hide from people. The only life i save now days is my own. I can't help others when I'm barely hanging on myself. I can't do a damn thing for them. And the people, now days there are only the worst kind of people. The kind of people that enjoy a world that's slowly turning to ash and reanimated dead flesh. Don't even get me started on the things that walk. I've seen death before all this. I've even delt with it first hand. I'm sorry to say my brother killed someone before. Oh Lane, where the hell are you? I hope your ok. i have seen the dead before, but somehow they walk now, they semi-function even they have one purpose to feed. They don't get sick, they do not tire, they are machines made of decayed flesh and nashing teeth covered in a stentch most foul. I'm no good around those things. No good at all. I've managed to take out a few, but everytime i've felt sick afterwards and thrown up what little contents my stomach was holding. Food is so scarce now days, it's smarter just to run away from them. I can do that pretty good. I'm fast, and their slow. The only thing that has kept me alive this long is my speed. I have a knife just in case a dead one happens to corner me, but mostly i just run and hide. I hide from those you walk, i hide from those who hurt other people, i pretty much hide from everyone and though it has kept me alive so far. There's nothing left in this world but the worst of everything. The worst of people, the worst of nightmares. I have to believe that there is something good left in this world, anything at all. Lane...... Where the fuck are you brother? You're dumbass should be here with me wheathering this god damn storm. "
Julie looked up from her journal she was writing in when she heard a noise outside the cabin. She had been crashing here a few nights now, it looked deserted when she found it, but maybe whoever owned it had finally come back. She stood up and grabbed her knife and shoving her journal in her backpack. She blew out her candle she was using to right and listened hard to see if she heard anything else. She strained her ears against the darkness but only heard the pitter patter of rain drops hitting the roof. It was really coming down outside. She started to take a step and the floorboards beneathe her feet creaked loudly. She froze. Panic had paralyze her, but she had to hide. Hiding was the only thing that had kept her safe all this time. She knew if it was a walker she could just be quiet and it would eventually wander off. If it was people, well people tend to be a bit more persistant. What the hell do i do? Julie thought to herself. Do I make a dash for the woods out back? Yes! She ran as fast as she could to the back door and yanked it open and ran smack right into someone. She couldn't tell if it was man or walker she let out a scream. "Shhhhhhhh" someone said in the darkness. It was to dark to see his face, but something in her gut was screaming at her, telling her she was still in danger. Lightning flashed across the sky, the streak of light illuminated the mans face momentarily. He was smiling and it creeped Julie out. She sat on the floor looking up at him as he stood there looking down upon her.
"Why hello, i didn't mean to frighten you, allow me to introduce myself...... My name is Zane."
