Max heard the door and crept towards Abby. "Okay keep quiter and keep low," he said as he looked quickly out the window. They had weapons. "The shotguns on the counter," he said to her. "Can you reach it. I have one arm so I'll use your handgun. Don't fire unless I say to okay," he said, his voice low and hushed. He pulle the handgun from the waist band of his pants and crept to beside the door. "Okay when they come in the front I'll aim my gun and get them to stop. You be in the kitchen and come out when I give the okay. Does that work," he said as he raised the gun. "If I have to shoot them I will. I won't hesitate, I want you to know that in advance. Taking there life won't weigh on me."

Abby couldn't believe what he was saying. She ...with a shot gun, she didn't even know how to shoot the damn thing. She reached and got it, since he wanted her to have it. She waited, and listened to his plan. She didn't like this. She was scared. If they shot him, what would happen to her?
Abby reached over and grabbed his arm before he left her side. She yanked hard on his arm and leaned in. Without thinking, she leaned in and kissed him. It was quick and hard, and she hissed at him, "Don't you die on me, you hear?" She let go of him and crouched near the kitchen doorway.
She didn't like what he said about killing them, but she understood it. Could she do it? She wasn't as sure as he was.
Charles had been taught how to conduct himself in these situations from an early age and so when he needed to he was able to call on a more primal part of himself that reacted without thinking through the moral issues related to these life and death scenarios. He quickly returned Sarah's kiss and sunk into his battle mindset. They didn't know the numbers or attitude of those within the house and so he was prepared for anything. He motioned to the other side of the door and for a split second caught site of movement within the house. It seemed far too purposeful to be a growler, which meant it was human.
They were probably expecting them to come inside and had planned for that event. Charles decided that he was going to try and put them off script. He posted up on one side of the door and had Sarah take the other.
"I saw you in there. We don't want trouble but we're also not afraid to do what's got to be done. I have a weapon with a high rate of fire and if I need to I will pepper this place with gunfire. I'd rather not have to do that though. So how about you all just come on out slowly."
Though technically a question his last line made it very clear that he was not asking them to do anything, he sounded like the commander he had once been, not ready to take no for an answer.

Sarah followed behind him up the steps and took her post next to the door. She let out a breath she didn't realize she had been holding. Her eyes glanced to Charlie, and she nodded her approval of what he had just done.
She couldn't hear anything inside, and her hands were sweating. She hated this. She reached up and grabbed her cross, closing her eyes for a second. <God, please let this play out the way you wish, lead us to make the right choices, Amen> She quickly let go of her cross and gripped her gun. Her hands shook as she realized what she was doing. She had just prayed to God, but held a weapon of murder in her hands. Sarah looked at Charlie, and swallowed , why didn't they respond already? Charlie had given them a good chance.

"Hey, hey. Watch the arm," Max said when shd grabbed his sore arm. Then she kissed him, why did she kiss him. He was shocked, taken back. Why did she do it, he didn't even kiss back, she just pulled away. "I will, I promise," he said quiety as she disapeared into the kitchen. Damb now he needs to live, had a reason to.
He listened to someone walk up to the door and readied his gun. He expected them to knock or try and lure Sinners out. But instead they spoke. They must have seen them. They were spotted, up shit creek without a paddle. They at least gave them a chance. Maybe they just were some sick bastard wanting see them suffer.
"Listen we don't want trouble, we don't need bloodshed. It's just me, alone and armed. I'll meet your agreement. just don't shoot. Lower your gone and I'll come out. We don't need this violence. Listen I'll toss my gun and step out. We can settle this without attracting the dead" Max said.

Abby heard the man calling to them. She stared at Max, wish he would look at her and see her nodding her approval. She raised a brow as Max answered. It was just him....that was good, don't let them know about her. Damnit, Max! She watched him stand and get ready to go out the door. She held her ground, kept low, and gripped the shot gun.
Abby stared down at it, and took it all in. How the fuck did this thing work? She took a deep breath. It couldn't be that much different than the hand gun, right? Aim and pull the trigger, right? She hoped she was right, as she took aim to cover Max.
We don't want trouble but there's only one of you? Thought Charles. People didn't usually say we unless there was more then one or they were insane and either one was not good. He didn't want to tip his hand this early though and so he played along. He put his hand up to Sarah, counting off to let her know that there were probably more then one. He guessed two or three. A larger group would likely have tried to surround them.
"Go ahead and kick that gun out here then and I'll lower mine. Try anything though and I won't hesitate. Hope you understand why it's gotta be this way," he said.
When the gun eventually came out Charles would be ready to kick it off to the side so that it was nowhere in reach of the man if things turned sour.

"It's alright, I fet y'ah. Have to make sure your safe," Max said. He lowered the gun to the ground, then stood straight up. Opening it silently he kicked the good out. It clattered down the steps and onto the grass. "There now lower it," he said, the door still sligthly open. He didn't know why he was so trusting rigt now. He guess he could still handle it if he had to. "I'm coming out. you shoot me it won't end well."
With that he opened the door and stepped out. His one hand was raised the other still in his sling under his jacket. His machete was clearly visible on his back, but he made no move to grab it. He looked at the man and woman out front. They seemed to be about his age, and he eyed them carefully. "Now I assume you want to come in. Have look around? Take the shit and leave."
"We don't want to rob you. Honestly we were just looking for a place to bed down for a day or two."
He holstered his weapon and motioned to have Sarah tuck hers as well.
"Now if you can tell your partner to come on out we can all have a nice and civil conversation. Promise, that is all I want. Maybe we can help each other out."
He smiled and stood up straight. He was glad that, at least so far, things had gone easy. If this guy had been looking for trouble he almost certainly would have not chosen to come out unarmed. After all Charles had not told him to drop his gun. That had been something that he had done all on his own.
"Names Charles and over there is Sarah we've been running together since pretty much the beginning. Free tip, if your trying to hide that you have more then you, don't say we. It gives you away. If i was looking to hurt you I would have started shooting right then. Neither of you are bit are you?"

"Not bit," Max said looking at him. He held the door open and called to Abby, "allright don't shoot Allstar, they are coming in, unarmed. Place the gun on the table and step out." He didn't want her misfiring, it could end badly for everyone. Max walked in after the pair from outside and three his hand down. "Still gettig used to this travelling with others thing then I gues," he said commenting on his slip. "I figured to weren't going to hurt us. That's why I gave up the gun." He still didn't trust these people, but they were better armed. "There's a room upstairs you can take. Farthest one down the hall," he said, thinking he'd let them deal with the Sinners inside. "If you are going to stay you will need to assist in some heavy lifting. You seem strong enough and with one arm I can't do it all." He held out his hand, hoping the ther man would shake it in agreement. "Not bit, I can guarantee that. I assume you and our friend aren't either. Wouldn't be asking me if you were."
Max walked into the kitchen with abby, making sure she had actually dropped the gun. He stepped close to her, "they seem alright, but watch the supplies. If they say or do anything sketchy tell me," he said whispering to her. He leaned on the counter beside her and looked at the two who had just entered. "I'm Max and this is Abby."
Abby gripped the shot gun,but listened. The guy outside seemed to be reasonable for the most part. Max tossed the gun,and then called to her.
She rose slowly and set the gun on the kitchen counter. As max came in followed by two people, her mind raced. She went to his side, and leaned against the counter. All her weapons stood on the counter. What good were they against the guns those two had? Her eyes ran over the man...Charles,then the woman..Sarah. They looked alright, but looks could be deceiving. She glanced at Max as he i troduced her.
Abby raised one hand and gave a sorta wave,"Hi," she had heard Max and him talking,"so..you two wanna stay here...with us?" She looked at Max,"um...I could use a hand,Max can't lift right now,he dislocated his shoulder and its back in but hurting him some." Jesus ,she was rambling! Shut up,Abby! She leaned closer to Max and looked up,mouthing sorry.
Sarah walked in behind Charlie. She slipped the gun in her waist ,like he had taught her. She saw the guy was close to their age, but he was injured . He said he wasn't bit,but it made Sarah a bit on edge regardless.
That was until she moved into the kitchen with Charlie and ...Max,he has said his name was Max. She saw the you g female and smiled at her. Abby, short for Abigail no doubt. Sarah saw that the woman was nervous. Saw how she took to Max's side. He was her protector like Charlie was hers. In an instant ,Sarah relaxed. Max couldnt be all bad if he was helping this girl. Sarah chuckled in her mind,girl...she looked young..not more than 18,she guessed.
Sarah placed a hand on Charlie's arm,"yes...we can help out,we have stuff to share and can help search around here." She smiled at Abby. Sarah raised a brow as she watched Abby apologize to Max.
Charles saw the younger girl and was happy. Maybe these people really were the good type. She didn't seem to be overly skiddish, just enough to have survived till now. He really didn't like what this world did to you. He hated the fact that he had to distrust everyone right off the bat. To be honest he didn't like having to threaten them at the beginning. It just was what had to happen to insure his and Sarah's safety.
"Sorry if I scared you earlier Abby, can't ever be too careful out here."
He looked over to Sarah.
"I think we have four cans of those ravioli's. If memory serves they expire soon anyways. maybe you and Abby could go get them from the Knight and we can have a proper dinner tonight."
He then looked to Max.
"Well let's go look at that heavy lifting you were talking about while the women take care of dinner."

Max looked at abby when she apologized and just placed a hand on her arm. "It's okay, being friendly might help," he whispered to her. When Charles suggested that they go do the heavt lifting Max looked at Abby. He wanted her approval to go. As silly as it sounded, he knew she was scared. That all this was still new to her.
"There's two dead upstairs. They offed themselves or something. If you and Sarah want that room we'll be clean it out. After that there two more Sinners in the barn and another by some diesle fuel. Then we have a workshop of somekind. We need to load tools and the fire wood into the house. There's also a cellar to check, but it's not a priority. If we have time before dark there's another building behind the barn. I know it's a lot right off the bat. But I assume you want this secrue as I do," Max said to Charles. "We have food we can share too. Some water for supper. They have a well on the property, doesn't work though."
He continued to lean against the counter. "If we are okay to leave Abby and Sarah alone we shoulde start now. Pick a place and I'll follow."
Abby stared at the two males. She saw Charles was trying to be nice. She found it funny that Max was giving them the room with the dead people, but wait....what did that mean for the other room?
She cast a glance at Max. She had kissed him and she wasn't even sure why. She just didn't want him to go and die on her leaving her alone.
Abby's face went devoid of expression,"um...not meaning to rock the boat, but Dude...you don't me from Adam and please don't go pulling the ...you're a girl routine with me...."she looked at Max,"please...I told you,I'm not fucking broken....I can help...not just fucking cook!" She glanced at Sarah and then shoved off the counter,"come...let's get the food."
Charles wanted to snap off at Abby. She had questioned his leadership and it was not something that he took to well. He was thinking of witty retorts when he stopped for a second and thought. She was going through with what he had asked her to do, despite her argument and so he decided that his best option would just be to play the diplomat for the time being. He wanted these people to trust him especially if he was going to suggest what he was thinking about suggesting.
"Look, I'm sorry if I offended you. I'm used to being in charge, even from before all this. I have a gruff personality. I like things to make sure things are getting done."
He reached out to Sarah and rubbed her shoulder. Before he went over with Max.
"So which one do you want to tackle first? If we put a good pace we might be able to get everything we need done taken care of before we lose the light."
Sarah saw Abby's face and knew it was coming. She could read this woman pretty well. She was scared, she could sense that, but she didn't wanna be treated like extra baggage either. She found herself smiling at the way the woman flew off at Charlie.
Sarah smiled at Charlie as he gave some sort of apology to Abby. He explained , which was more than she had seen him do for anyone other than her. She reached up and patted his hand, "We will be fine..and we will work on things in here." She walked off after Abby.
"Hey...Abby, listen, he takes some getting used to , but he really is a good guy, rough around the edges." She smiled at her as she moved to the truck and opened up the back. "What he was doing was his way of keeping us both safe, if that makes sense?" She grabbed a box of canned goods, and chuckled, 'he didn't mean you were weak, Hon, really."
She pointed to a duffle bag for Abby to grab, 'Let's get things done out here and head back in, "Sarah glanced around, she felt a cool breeze, 'it's gonna be really cold tonight."

Max was surprised when Abby snapped, though he realy shouldn't have been. Sh did give him the same 'I'm not weak I can handle anythig' speech more than once. He was glad the it settled quickly and peacefully. They didn't nee to be at each other's throats so soon. He looked at abby and then quickly did a scan of room at all these people. If this guy trully did need to be giving he orders, then it might not end well. If he didn't agree, he would go aainst them, full on no matter what the cost. His eyes landed on Abby and he grinned, "you get the next place Allstar. Maybe if you two finish early you can remove the sinner bodies up on the room. There also the cellar you could check."
He watched Charles approach and looked the man in the eye. "Well I say we get the tools first. Bodies aren't going anywhere. But the tools we need before dark. We also need to know what we are going to do with the bodies. We can burn them, or burry them. But both take time and resources. We could just pile them up, it'd be quick and easy. Only if we are going to stay for any extended period of time we would need to do something else with them, rotten Sinners stink." He smiled as he put his knife back in his holster. Despite dropping his gun he had still had his knife readied in the hand in his sling. It was concealed so he could have use it to keep Abby safe. "Unless you have a different idea."
Abby had walked out of the kitchen a tad heated. Why did men always think she was fragile? She was, to a degree, but damn, she'd been doing alright. Except for dislocating Max's shoulder, but that could have happened to anyone, right?
She pushed through the screen door and stopped cold on the steps. WHOA! What the fuck was that? She just thought it was a truck, but damn, this thing was a hell of a lot better than some old pick up truck.
Abby stepped and followed Sarah, "Yea...I get what you are saying...and I know I have issues dealing with all this, but..I have been ." She picked up the duffel bag , 'So..you two..been together since the beginning? You know him real well, then." She smiled at Sarah, and grabbed Max's back pack from their trunk, closing it.
Going back inside, the girls set the stuff on the kitchen table. Abby started rummaging through the cupboards and found some pots, and pans. "These should work." She had already noticed that the stove was propane, so they just needed to light it. It didn't need electric to work.
Abby kept staring at the wooden door, 'Hey, Sarah...Max said we could go and clear out those two dead folks upstairs, and we could do that, or we could head down there and see what else we can find?" She pointed to the door, 'We were thinking it might be a cellar, since the pantry is over there," she pointed to what looked like a closet, but without a door.
The situation with Abby seemed mostly dealt with though he was sure that they would end up clashing later on. As long as they could figure things out like they had they would be fine. For now it was time to look to the task at hand and so when Max suggested getting the tools he gladly agreed
"Sounds good to me. Tools are important and will give us a leg up on everything else we need to do. Lead the way and we'll get to doing it."
He would follow him outside to where this workshop was. Hopefully they would get lucky and they would have a wheelbarrow or something that would make the work easier.
"So you and Abby meet up recently I take it. You mind if I ask where you guys met?"
