"I think we'll need a different kind of wood to cover the Windows, this is a little thick and small, we'd have use quite a bit on the windows," he said watching her grab the hammer. He spotted a wheelbarrow in the corner, "we could use that to carry the wood." He said turning around to talk to her, but she was already out of the shop.
Max followed her out, taking the machete from his back. "What's the plan," he asked as they walked to the barn. When she went to smash the chain, max leaned on the side of the door. After the first few hits max chuckled, "come on allstar, pretend it's my shoulder you're smashing there." When the lock broke Max stepped back. "Awright, let's take a look inside." He watched her disapear through a thin crack in the door and proceeded to follow her. He turned sideways and slid through the gap, his back rubbing on the door.
Once inside he looked around. Darkness was every where except for where she shine the light. "Can't see shit," he said following her closely. he didn't have another light, just his machete, which he kept raised and ready. "Don't hear anything."
Abby's light caught flashes of metal . She slowed her span and it revealed a tractor." Well...it is a farm." She frowned looking back at him," maybe we can get that door open some more." She took a few more steps, slowly panning the beam,"heyyyy! Look at that!" She moved closer to where she had trailed the light. It was a large piece of equipment.
Abby glanced back at Max," it's a combine!" She chuckled," if they have this,i bet there is some sorta gas tank on this propety somewhere." She shone the light further in,being careful where she stepped. With the large farm equipment,it was getting tight."why would they move all this inside?"
She wish she could see more, they needed to get those doors open. It looked like there had been animals too,at some point, since she saw stalls for them further in past the equipment. That was when she heard it. A chain rattling. Growling.
Abby froze and lifted her bat,"you hear that?"

Max followed her, nearly tripping each step he took. "God Damb it's dark," he said looking at the machines. "They use diesel, so we can't use it for are car," he said taking a few more steps behind her. "Not unless we are driving them out, they fuel is useless. Or a good fire source."
"They either moved it inside to keep the safe in the winter. Or by the look of this whole barn they haven't been used in awhile. Farmer most likely just kept them here in storage. Use the parts and whatnot. Probably a cheap bastard," Max said lookig at them. "Think some of these are rusted anyway." He followed her to the back by the stables and looked them, "think there's animals?"
When they heard the growl and chains he raised his machete. "Sounds like they are stuck, or wearing chains." He tryed to scan the stall. "You see anything?"
Abby moved along slowly down the stalls. She had shone the light in, but it didn't reach all the way to the back of the stalls. She glanced back and him and made a face he couldn't see, "nope...no more than you." She started to shake a little as she realized what she was about to do.
Her hand found the slide lock for the stall, and she slowly slid it back and opened the door, just a bit. She was sorta half way in, halfway out of the stall, but she hoped it game her enough reach that the light shone back all the way.
Abby gasped and pulled back, "Fuck!" A Sinner had charged at her. He was chained to the wall by a collar, and just as he hit the middle of the stall, the chain took up and he went down, growling. It looked like a young man, late teens, maybe. The walker in the field was a girl....Abby, stood there, trembling. "the kids were gone...so they offed themselves?" She looked at Max, "are there more...the other stalls?" She felt the hairs on the back of her neck stand up, "This is sick shit." She let the light roam the stall floor. "Guess we know what happened to the animals...they...what the fuck, Max?!" he would hear the rise in her voice, the tremble , she was about to seriously loose it.

Max followed her to the stall, standing behind her when she reached for the lock. "Something's in there for sure," he said calmly, "let's be ready incase it jumps at y'ah." When she pulled it open and the Sinner launched Max jumped back, good thing she couldn't see anything he did. "It's not getting Tony's anytime soon," he said looking as the light shine on it. "Listen we don't have to do anything, the can't get out, or they already would have. maybe they thought they could help them, that keeping them chains they couldn't hurt anyone. And once the last one die they had enough. Foolish of them." He brought his machete at the chained Sinners head, cutting through the skull. It dropped to te ground, it's chain going limp." He looked at the others stalls, "you think they're full or empty?" He heard her voice rise. "Listen, I'll take care of te rest of them, just give me the light. Why don't you go back into the house and see if there's some running water. If the had a well then it might still be working. If so run the water in the sinks and tub, full them up. Same with any pots and buckets in the kitchen." He took the light and shine it towards the door. "Just go, I can handle this. You don't nee to see it anymore."
Abby handed him the flashlight. She stared at him, and it showed that his words had snapped her out of her fear. 'Wait..what?" She looked confused, 'If they have a private well...but don't they still need power for the pump, and...if they have a fuel tank and generator...it probably empty , like the last damn one was." She made a growling noise and then turned on her heel and stalked back towards the door.
Why was he getting her to do this? She stopped at the door, as she realized what he had done, "Max....thanks." She walked out and back into the daylight. She didn't head right back to the house, she moved around the barn. As she made her way around back, she saw it. A big drum looking thing, and she guessed it was for fuel since it had what looked like a nozzle on it , like a gas pump.
She headed for it, then stopped. There was a walker chained to it. What the fuck? Her eyes scanned the rest of the area behind the barn. She moved slowly, and decided that if they chained this thing here, it was for a reason. She waited, wondering if she should go get Max, when her eyes spotted a door. The barn had exits at both ends, nice. She headed towards it, and saw it was locked up like the front had been. She pulled the hammer from her back pocket and started smacking it like she had the last.

Max walked down the rows of the other stall. He pulled open the sliding lock of the next and then the door. It revealed a Sinner like the first, this time a girl around the same age. Max brought the machete down on the Sinner's head, dropping it to the ground. Pulling it out he kicked the Sinner over and left the stall.
Max checked the rest of the stalls, these ones contained nothing but blood stained board and hay. He left the stalls and and started to leave the barn. A loud banging came from the far wall and he started to walk toward it. He waited on the side, it was probably a raider, or someone still alive. When the door open he grabbed whoever was on the other side. He pressed them against the wall, the machete blade against there neck.
Abby was excited, she got this ine faster than the other. She was proud of herself and disn't feel as useless as she had. She leaned into the door ,sliding it, wanting to show Max what she had found.
She was jerked up into the dark and she squeeled, but it was cut short and turned into a strangled cry as she felt a blade to her throat. Pain in her throat as she felt a warm trickle down one side. Tears sprang to her eyes.
Where was Max? What happened? Who was this? Had they missed something when the walked through? She didn't dare speak, hell, she was barely letting herself breath.

Max was about to spin the body outside when he remembered there could be others outside. He kept te blade raised and against the hostage neck. He could tell theyvwere female, but that didn't make them any less dangerous. He brought the flashlight up to her face. He shone the bright light against her face, blocking his own face behind it.
"Tell me why you're here," he said as he turned it on. When he saw it was Abby he stopped, the blade lowered and he three it to the dirt beside him. "Abby, it's you. I thought you were going inside. I didn't know it was you. I didn't hurt you did I."
Abby had made up her mind as he questioned her. This guy wasn't getting shit from her. Her jaw was set , as the light shone in her face. She squinted at the brightness and was still unable to see her attacker.
The light vanished, and she felt the pressure at her throat leave it. She blinked and heard the panic in the voice. She stared into Max's face, black spots in her vision. Not thinking she brought her fingers to her throat and felt the warm liquid , not much, but still. Her eyes went wide, 'I was, "she started to answer him. She leaned against the wall, and stared at her fingers. She knew he didn't know it was her, and was wrapping her brain around it all, "I went to the back and found another door....and" she pointed to the door , "the fuel tank..." she lowered her arm, 'I'm fine. " she shoved past him and stomped out into the yard.

Max knew what he was going to do next was going to get her even angrier but he did it anyway. Rushing out of the barn he walked after her. "Abby just listen," he caught up to her and spun get around. "Listen, I thought you were someone else, I wouldn't put you in harms way. Let me see, did I cut deep." He grabbed her chin and lifted it up. "Look we can get it cleaned up, and put a bandage on it alright. As I said I didn't mean to do it, a simple accident." He looked down at his feet. "I dealt with the Sinners in the barn, there was one more like the first. You said there was a fuel tank around back? Probably not te fuel we need, but if we find a truck we can use it. Were there any Sinners around back? If so I'll deal with them. We need to clear it all out before we board it all up."
When Max grabbed her arm, she turned and came up with her hand, ready to slap him, "LEAVE ME ALONE!" she stood and felt his fingers, lift her head. The cut opened up a bit, and it was roughly an inch long and maybe a quarter inch deep. Truly, it wasn;t bad, and that was not what she was upset about. Not really.
"I am gonna go inside and clean it..alright." She pulled back from him, "Yea, "she pointed to the barn, 'It's in the back..big brown tank, but there is a Sinner chained to it like the ones in the barn." She shook her head, "I don't know what these people were up to, but it.." she was trying to hold it together, not show him how scared she had been, or how weak she was.
She swallowed, but had yet to look at him directly, "Just the one was all I saw." She shrugged as he mentioned a truck, "There is another building back there..."she was done, done, and just threw her hands up, bat gone, she had dropped it and the hammer in the barn, 'Fuck!' as she realized it, "My shit...my bat..I dropped it." She looked at the house then the barn, trying to decide. She ran both hands up over her face and into her hair, "alright...alright...I need my stuff...and You...need to , just " she held her hand up, "I was scared..." she slowly looked at him, "I was so fucking scared , Max..."she swallowed and fought the tears, 'I thought you were dead...that somehow we missed something and you ...and this man...he..." she was shaking and hugged herself, but stepped back from him, holding her hand up, "I'll....be..alright, just give me a sec, then I will go around back with you."

Max felt she was tense and pulled away. He didn't want to upset her further. "So just one, should be easy enough if it's stuck." He paused, he wanted to comfort her, but it'd probably just be awkward. He saw he start to freak out and placed a hand on her shoulder, "Listen. Listen. You don't need to be scared I'm fine," he said looking at her, trying to catch her eye. "We aren't in trouble. We're safe. Even if I was you got this, you're abby the badass rember." He smiled at her. "Why don't you go inside for real this time, let me deal with everything. I get that this shit is terrifying and not what you're used to. I can handle it, you can be safe." He pulled away his hand. "If there's more of them, I don't want you to see what I have to do. I'll bring your stuff in the house. Why don't you start unloading the car, and checking the house for anything useable."
He turned and started walking away, toward the back. He as well had left his weapon in the barn. He would gather them later, for now he wanted to kill the one on the tank and get back in the house. He walked until he was aroud the back of the barn. He saw the Sinner and watched it come toward him, the chain straining against it. He brought his knife from his belt to its head and watched it fall. Pulling his knife he looked at the tank and put the knife away. The tank was semi full but he still didn't know if it was the right type of fuel. He walked into the barn from the entrance Abby had just come through. He grabbed his machete from the dirt floor and placed it on his back. He then grabbed the hammer and placed it in his belt. Finally he grabbed the bat and held it in his hands. He walke out the door, and closed it behind him. Abby had said there was another building back there, but he didn't go to it, he could save that for later.
Abby nodded , he didn't want her with him. She knew what he was thinking, even if he was saying shit trying to make her feel better. She walked back to the house , and in the screen door.
In the kitchen , she turned on the faucet and nothing came out."Damnit" she smacked the sink and kicked the cupboard. Why couldn't they get a break? She rummaged through a couple cabinets looking for something a bandaid maybe. Nothing...she slammed the door and stalked through to the front door.
She went out the front to the car and grabbed her backpack from the back seat, then ran it inside. Maybe she could do this part and not screw up. Did he really mean what he said? Hell no, he was just being nice.
Back to the car, she popped the trunk, and started carrying in his things. She set the crate down on the kitchen counter, then moved to the back door to look for him. Why was she nervous? She saw him and she felt a little lighter, a wave of relief flowed through her. She held the door for him, "Did..you find it? Did it have gas?" She let the door close behind him, and moved to the counter. She pulled the first aid kit from her pack and held it up, "I gotta clean this." The blood had started to clot ,just leaving the dried blood down her neck. That was when she saw it, a door she had thought was a pantry, 'Hey....could that be your cellar?" She pointed at the wooden door.

Max stepped into the house, and walked into the kitchen. He placed er bat on the table along with the hammer. "Was there running water," he asked. He hoped that it would be more relaxed now, that they had a moment to breathe. "It was semi full, though it probably won't be the right type for our car." He looked at the cellar, and stepped toward it. "Let's take a look," he said pulling the door open. It reeked of staleness and was very musky. It was dark all down the stairs. "So the well doesn't work then? I was surprised they didn't have a back up power thing for it. We might have to take a look at it tomorrow." He grabbed the flash light and shone it down the stair. "Let's take a look."
She shook her head, "they probably do, but I haven't found a generator yet, and if they gone, no one to keep it up, so...i don't know, do they run low?" Abby was gonna follow behind him, but ..was that a car door?
Abby reached out and grabbed his arm, "Did you hear that?" she hissed at him. She grabbed her bat from the table and moved towards the front. She glanced back at Max, and nodded to the back door. She thought he should go out and come around on the porch. Abby looked through the screen, but didn't open the door yet. It was a man and a woman...and they had guns. Shit!
