Max watched the snow covered trees go by as the passed in the car. He looked down at the map in his hands and turned to Abby. "Think there's a town up ahead, might be a good place to check out. It's a smaller town, so should be less Sinners." He folded it back up and tucked on the dash with his weapon. "Looks like we are nearly out of gas anyway," he said checking the dial. He shifted in his seat and smirked at her. "What do you say does that sound good." He knew she didn't want to stop, that she was terrified. Locking the doors and looking aroud were signs she was scared out of her mind. "Why are you so scared? We can handle whatever it is we face? I won't let anything hurt us." He paused and took a breath looking at her. "Have you had to kill someone still alive in this hell hole? I'm not talking a friend you need to but down to be at ease with life, but an attacker. Have you killed raiders, or killers yet?"
Abby didn't look at him, but could feel his eyes on her. She was concentrating , her eyes kept scanning the view from the windshield. It was almost like she was on some kind of over drive alert. Her knuckles were white where she was gripping the wheel so tight, "Yea...sure...that's fine with me." She heard him shift, and knew he was staring at her. His words made her close her eyes for a brief second, then open them and sigh, "Really? why am I scared...well...let's see....things wanna eat us, for starters, then who knows what the hell else in out here? I...just...am way outta my comfort zone, alright?" She glanced over at him, 'What? no....I...you are the second person I have really talked to." She looked back through the glass and jerked left to avoid the rear of a car. this was not easy. Cars were abandoned all over the roads, and dead people littered the areas. She had to concentrate to avoid as much as she could and not wreck them. She didn't want that. If something happened , it would be her fault, again.
Abby swallowed and glanced at him again, 'Look....I am dealing alright, I am working through this stuff, and I got your back, ok, I promise. " she chewed on her bottom lip, as if thinking, 'alright, fine...this is the farthest I have ever been from home....and it's freaking me out...I don't know this place...nothing familiar." She glanced at him, "I know..that's dumb and childish, but the feeling...being afraid...it's...there." She was being honest, and just had to hope he understood and wouldn't ridicule her for how she felt. She didn't want him to think of her as some kind of sissy.

"Watch out," 'Max said gripping the roof as she narrowly hit a car. "We don't need to go that fast, any speed will work," he said looking at her. "Listen I get you're scared, but you need to be strong. Even home isn't familuarl anymore, you have to adapt. Think of it as a fresh start. You wan to be an epic badass in this world, be an epic badass. Just need to chill. Maybe try smoking, calm them nerves." He looked down at her again. "All this dead things can't even touch us, look at how much we killed at the gas station. We got this. If it came down to it I could get us out, I guarantee it." He watched the road, Sinners walking along the sides and cars making a sea in front of them. "Listen want to switch off just tell me."
Abby sat there listening to him. He had a point. Nothing was familiar in this hell hole. She glanced at him and slowed the car some. "Yea, Abby the Badass." she chuckled at that. His words about getting them out, made her think and she spoke before she thought about it. "So...does that mean you are gonna stay with me, not leave me, or some ignorant shit like that? We are in this together now, then, takin care of each other?" She glanced at him, and then refocused on the road. Her hands had relaxed a bit on the wheel, but her jawline was set. She was tense , worried what his answer was gonna be.
"I mean...you don't have to, I get that, but...if you wanna jet on me, can you wait til we find someplace safe?" Her head turned to him again. Then, without a word she started to chuckle, "I mean, I do seem to be bad for you." She grinned and gently bumped his arm, indicating his shoulder.
A few more miles, that's what they had left. The fuel light had come on. Not very far and they would be out of gas completely. Abby spotted it first. She pointed through the windshield, "Hey...look...is that a farm..or...what exactly?'

"Naw I'll stick with you," Max said smIlin. "At least until someone better comes along." He was joking and smiled at her to make sure she knew he was. He reclined the seat back, "plus you seem to be lucky at finding food and supplies. Better than me. Out of all the gas station i just found some plates. We actually used more of my resources than I found."
When she started talking about the fuel light he sat up straight. "Well let's see where we are." He grabbed a map and looked at it. "There's a town a few miles from here, but we'd have to back track, we passed the turn off earlier." He looked at the farmhouse. "It's worth a shot, looks like a farmhouse or an old church. Whatever it is its wooden and rustic."
Abby wasn't sure about the town. Yeah, they handled a few walkers at the gas station, but a whole town. Who know how many there might be?
When he saw and commented on the thing she pointed out, she agreed, "I think it's a farm...of some type. It's got over grown fields all around it, least it makes a even playing field. No one can sneak up." She turned down the long driveway heading to it, having used her turn signal.
Abby laughed as she saw him glance at her, "Hey...it's habit." She rolled her eyes and slowed their approach as they came to the end of the straight away and she turned right and followed the wrap around., "Looks..desserted...hey, see the barn out back, 'Farmers keep gas ...fuel tanks for their equipment, bet we might find some gas there." She put the car in park, and reached back for her bat after turning the car off and handing him the keys.
Abby unlocked the doors, and slowly got out. She closed the door softly, and moved around the front of the car. The place looked like no one had been here in a long time. She moved out infront of the car, then headed up the steps to the front door. She tried the handle, locked. She glanced back at Max, then pointed that she was heading around on the porch. It looked like the porch wrapped around the whole house.

Max just laughed when she used her turn single. "Do you still stop at every stop sign too," he asked still laughing as he grabbed his machete from the dash. When she stopped he tried to tug open the door, remembering it was locked. Once she unlocked it he opened it slowly and stepped out, his only good arm doing all the work. He grabbed the leys as tucked them into his pocket. Then he reached back into the car and took the sock she gave him. He tucked the gun in the waist band of his jeans before closing the door. His hand held the machete as he struggled to get the carrier for it over his back and shoulder. Once on he slipped the weapon into it's case and turned to her. She had already gone in, and tried to open the door. "Most fuel may not cross over with our car, probably diesel and what not for the trucks." His eyes scanned the surroundings. "Hey y'ah know for being so paranoid you didn't check for people or Sinners." He walked up the porch beside her. His eyes darted towards the window beside the door. "Why don't you go look for another entrance. I'll keep watch. We left all of our sides exposed." He debated just putting something through the window, itd be loud but fastest way inside. "We'll check the barn when we are done the house."
Abby shot him a glare. She had looked around, and there was nothing in the front. Not like the Sinners opened doors. She nodded to him and slipped around the side of the porch, making her way along it towards the back.
Nothing on the side. Windows, and from what she gathered looking inside, the place was empty. She rounded the corner to the back and stopped. One Sinner was in the field off from the back yard. It was sorta ambling, so she kept quiet, and moved to the back door.
Abby stared at the door for a few moments, not sure if she believed what she was seeing. The screen door was there, and the man door sat open, almost if someone was expecting them. She gripped her bat, and pulled the screen door open. It made a soft squeak and she paused. Her eyes went to the Sinner, and stared. It must not have heard it. She didn't chance pulling the door anymore, but slipped her body inside.
She found herself in a large farm kitchen. It was empty, and a few things littered the floor. She eased through and moved to the hall. She could see Max at the door, and rushed to unlock it. Abby opened it for him, "Looks..empty." She moved away and kept searching room to room. The stairs were right near the front door, heading to the second floor.

Max just chuckled as she glared at him. When she slipped around back Max had gone down the steps. He leaned on the car as he watched the road they came down. If they had noticed the farm, most likely others did too. That means either people will see it after them or it was already cleared. Max saw the door open and quickly climbed te steps to greet her. "Might be some upstairs? Keep an eye open," he said as he looked around. He could see a living room off to the side. The furniture looked ancient, lots o furniture, probably as old as the farm. "Looks like they didn't like to upgrade," he said looking at her. "Let's see what we have upstairs." He unclipped the knife from his belt so it was easy to access. The stairs squeaked as he walked up them, if there was anything up there they'd no now. He looked at the first room and opened the door. It had a large bed, and an abundance of purple all over. He walked down the hall to the next room, a bathroom with mix matched tile and pastel colours. That left one room at the very end and a door that most likely led to an attic. He keeps forward and pulled the room open. He quickly shit it and turned to look at Abbt. "There dead Sinners in there. Two on the bed, both missing the top of there heads. Think they ended it. There was a gun, shotgun."
Abby stood right behind him, ready to play the same game they had in the station. He would open and move and she would bash the shit outta whatever came at them. She blinked as he shut the door quickly.
She listened and then gripped his arm, "Max...we need that gun...and if their gone...it should be safe, right?" She locked eyes on his, they were close, cramped up in the hall. She could feel his breath on her head, and then she stepped back. Her hand let go and she stepped back. Should we look up there? She swallowed and reached for the rope. Abby had to stand on tip toe and stretch to reach it with her finger tips.
She prayed it was empty, not even sure how one would get up there, unless they died up there. This place would be a decent place to hold up for a little while, if they could scavange some stuff.

"I'll get the gun and you check up there," Max said nodding at her. It was cramped in the hall and when she grabbed his arm he didn't fight it. He could feel how close they were pressed together. When she stepped back he was able to breathe. "Sound good?" He didn't wait for a reply, he just disapeared into the room in front of him. Opening slowly he look at the figures on the bad. Both were in farm clothes, besides from a little blood on the tops it seems to be decently clean. He walked forward, the bed was cornered in there blood, mostly on the pillows. He assumed this place would have sheets they could clean them up with. He stepped forward and grabbed the gun from the male sinner hands. It struggled but he wa able to pull it away. Turning around he looked in the room. It had an ugly wallpapper and was mostly bare. He walked forward and looed at the drawers. They contained clothes of various sizes, it lokes like the would fit Abby but not himself. Stepping into the hall he called up to her, "what's up there allstar?"
Abby knew he was going to say that. She sighed and pulled the stairs down. She went up the steps slowly, and reached back to pull her flashlight from her back pocket. She turned it on and her head crested the landing. She saw alot of boxes, and moved slowly on the step, turning her body with the light. Nothing ran at her, she didn't hear anything, and started back down, 'Dust...and some boxes and old trunks, some old furniture." She hit the floor and started folding the stairs back up. She looked over at him, "Alright...so...house in empty, I saw one in the field....should we check the barn?" Abby leaned against the wall, she ran a hand through her hair.

"Well let's take out the one in the the field for sure," Max said looking down at the gun. "There's only two shots missing from here so it should help for later." He lokes at her. "To get the one in the field, is it possible for you to lure it away towards me and I can get it with my machete." He moved his arm under his makeshift sling. "Then the barn. There migh be some things is use in there." He started to climb down the stares. "Is there's a cellar. It will most likely be empty, but have some can goods. Also if we are planning to stay here. We will need to get rid of the bodies in the room. Which means you'll need to carry them, as I only have one arm. I can help assist you, but it will take a little bit."
Abby stared at him and then burst out laughing, "Um...don't know about carrying them, but we get them on a sheet and I can drag them." She shoved off the wall and gently punched his good arm, 'As for the walker...why don't we check out the barn, clear it before we go gettin it's attention?" She didn't want to be dealing with what they thought was one, for more to come out of the buildings out back.
He mentioned a cellar, 'I..don't know about a celler, I didn't check in the kitchen, it was empty so I moved on. " she stared at the shot gun, 'Should be more shells around some where, you check the drawers?" Abby headed into the room to her right, the purple one. She started pulling out drawers, and in the top one...bingo. She held up a box of shells, "See...told ya." She grinned at him, "So....can I pee before we go all Rambo?"

"Uh sure. There's some bushes out front. Don't know if the Barron's work yet so I wouldn't use them," Max said smiling at her. "As for the shotgun, we should keep it for later. When we get into some tough shit." He opened the front door and stepped out. He headed for the barn, pulling his machete from his back. "Cellar might have access from outside," he said looking back at Abby and the house. He continued to walk to the barn, "wonder if they have a stillary or moonshine," he said as he reached the doors of the old wooden barn. He tugged on the door, but a chain locked it shut. "Shut out," he said looking at te chain. "There's seems to be access to the loft if we can get up, or find a key." The chain was rusted as if it had been there awhile. "Maybe there another entrance."
Abby followed along behind him. She would wait, she wanted to make sure they stayed together. She stood, bat in hand as he pulled on the door. Her head canted and she listened.
Why did they chain this up, then go inside and kill themselves? She didn't like it, not one bit. She stepped closer and put her hear to the door. Hell, who knew, they could ahve locked it up to keep stuff safe, but then something happened and bam!
Abby looked back at him, "well, what's that?" She pointed at another small building off to the right of the barn. It was closer to the field and the walker in it, but so far, it was the only one she had seen, "Garage?..maybe some tools?" She started to head towards it, then stopped. The one in the field had taken notice and was heading this way, 'Heads up!" she gripped her bat and glanced at him, "let it come...." she wasn't gonna take off and meet it, she'd conserve her energy and wait til it hit the yard.

Max readied the machete and looked at the Sinner. "I got this one," he said as it walked slowly towards them. "But be ready if I miss." He tightened the grip on his blade and let it walk closer. "I need to practice with one arm." The Sinner was now a few steps in frot of him. He brought the blade down to its head, splitting the skull in one swipe. "Still got it," he said smiling. He ripped the blade out and kicked it down and away. "Looks more like a shed than a garage. Let's look at it." He started walking toward it. "Sucks the barn is locked up, but they must have done it for a reason. I mean it was locked before the offed it."
Abby stared at him and just shook her head." Go for it." She propped her bat on her shoulder and waited, watching incase he needed an assist.
Abby smiled at him,but it faded. He got excited about that way too quickly. What had people been reduced to? Getting excited because you could kill something was wrong, wasn't it?
She followed behind him, 'yea, maybe a shed? Either way, should have some kind of tools." She stood in the doorway an watched him, waiting. She was on edge, this was maybe too easy?

Max came and stood beside her. "So what inside? Or did you not a take a look yet." He looked at the door "well it not looked, that's good." He pulled the door but it wouldn't budge. He pushed into it with his good shoulder and it gave way. He stepped in and like around. It seemed to be somekind of shop. There was a work bench in the middle and tools around the walls. "Looks to be empty," he said stepping in. There was a wood furnace at the far end and stacks of lumber precum beside it. The tools on the walls were your basic tools, a few hammers and saws. All were in seeme shape, but had seen some ware and tear. "These could be useful," he said taking a game from the wall. "There might be some knives in the kitchen too. We should also still check for a cellar."
Abby grinned at him,"push" she said as he pulled on the door. She stepped in behind him,"well,we got plenty of wood to burn in that fireplace in the living room inside and to board up windows if need be." She grinned at him,"yea, but I wanna know what's in that barn."
Abby moved around him and grabbed a hammer off the wall, then headed back out the door. She glanced around making sure the yard was clear, before she put her bat between her legs. She fingeres the chain and the lock, then lets it fall back. She listened again, but didn't hear anything. Placing both hands on the hammer, she uses it to come down hard on the lock hoping to pop it. It took several hits for her to get it,but eventually it fell open.
Her hands were shaking as she pulled it off the chain and threaded the chain back through the door. She dropped it near the door and glanced back at Max,grinning , rather proud of herself. "Shall we?" Using all her strength she grabbed the handle and pushed the door, sliding it in its track. It hand't been open in a long time and she was only able to get it moved enough to let her through. Max would have to step sideways through,if he followed her. Abby grabbed her flashlight from her back pocket and clicked it on as she stepped inside, bat in the other hand.
