When he pulled back from her touch, she curled her finger in and lowered her hand, "Sorry...I..shouldn't have asked that." She rolled to her back. "Yea..." she chuckled at how he was one minute, pulling away from her, then trying to appease her again. It made no sense and her head was kinda fuzzy. "Regret....I got plenty of that...I don't care anymore...I just want to survive...do what I have to..what I need to...what feels right at the time." She sighed and glanced at him, "You sure..." she nodded, and then rolled to her hip, placing her back to him. Without thinking about it, she snuggled back against his side. She laid with one arm under her coat, propping her head, the other at her waist. "I like those blue eyes." she said in a sleepy voice and , then sighed, 'I could get lost in those blue eyes...just for a little while." She had her eyes closed and the words were coming out really low, almost like she was saying it while falling asleep.

"Not my blue eyes," Max said ,"it was a nickname for someone else." He looked at her. "You should sleep, it will help," he said moving away from her. He stood up as he went to the window, seeing the moon shining through the grates. He let her sleep, he didn't want to disturb her. He rubbed his shoulder and looked back at her sleeping frame. She seemed peaceful. He turned to look at the door, he debated leaving. But deep down he needed her, needed someone to keep him sane. He walked back to his blanket and sat beside her. The fire roared and stared into the flames. What a crazy night, he thought as stretched out his legs. He braced himself on his good arm and looked at her once again. He hoped tomorrow would be a better experience, but he doubted it.
Abby had indeed fell asleep, and though he got up and moved away from her she seemed peaceful. If only he could have seen her dreams.
It seemed more on instinct, her body seeking his warmth and comfort than anything else. When he sat back down beside her, she rolled and curled body around him. Her face pressed to his side ,arms wrapping him. She made ine soft whimper and squeezed him tighter, then her body relaxed some and she drifted back into a peaceful slumber.
Hours later, her head snapped up. Eyes darted around. Hair was a mess of tangles ,as her head looked back to him. She wiped her lips. It had been a long time since she had slept so sound,"sorry" she scooted back away from him.

Max watched her sleep until she wrapped around him. At first he was stiff but he soon began to relax. He realized she didn't mean to do it on purpose. He eventually wrapped his arm around her, making the position they were in less awkward. Some time after he must have drifted off asleep. He had shifted down and was laying beside her as they both slept. His arms wrapped her and his head was ontop of hers. He was sound asleep when he felt her scoot away and say something outloud. His eyes opened, blinking at the darkness of the room. "Musta dozed off," he said looking at her from where he layed, "good thing nothing happened." He stretched his arms out, wincing at his bad shoulder. "What time is it," he yawned, "think it's morning, or still night." The fire had since died out, leaving just the smell of smoke. At his feet the cups were knocked over, whatever contents were left spilt on the floor. Max sat up and leaned against the counter. "Sleep well allstar?"
Abby glanced over at him as he started asking questions,"i...not sure what time...not light out yet." She watched him now and then shifted and crawled over to the fire adding some cardboard and trying to restart it. She shivered and as she went to strike a match her hands trembled.
" i thought you were gonna wake me for watch?" She glanced back at him over her shoulder. It took a few tries but she finally got it going. She even put the cups from last night in to burn. Her head achedand she woulf kill for some asprin...tylenol...something.
She reached near him and grabbed her coat, slipping it on. Honestly. She wasn't sure where she had found it,but it was warm.
"Go ahead and rest some more...I can watch for a few hours..make something to eat then we can check out the pumps." She gave him a smile, then sat cross legged near the trash can.

"I fell asleep," Max sad, "guessing watching you sleep got boring," he laughed. "I'm fine, probably won't sleep anyway. You can cook something if you want, I need to drain the sea dragon." He rose, balancing himself of the counter. "This might be the last safe place we come by, I'd cook somethig." He started walking to the men's bathroom, stretching out his good arm as he did. He came out a few minutes later and looked at her. "We still need to get that sling on, or are you to hungover to remember your offer?" He took his seat beside her. "We should start packing up, do a clean sweep check pumps, sling, and leave," he said folding up the blanket he slept on the night before. "We can always stop later and rest, maybe a house with an actual bed." He stood and started putting things in his bag, the flashlight, pens, anythinf that wasn't consumable. "What food do we even have left yet? Some chips, smarties, jerky, and what else?"
Abby looked at him."alright, but I can handle my share,I don't want you thinking I'm some kid you gotta look after." She sighed and started rummaging through the box. She grabbed the flashlight and scoped out the floor and shelves. She found some more rubbing alcohol, pack of safety pins, a box of instant noodles under one shelf, out of date but she didn' t care. She saw some tbeef snack sticks scattered near the cooler and snagged them up. Did she dare? She scanned the cooler shelves...rows of spoiled milk and eggs, bit as she kept going.one red can up top. She held her breath and snatched it up. Firther down she looked for more water bottles. Maybe actually inside? She opened the door, held breath and shoved her upper half inside. She found two on the floor, just past the shelves. One small one and a gallon jug! Hot damn! She backed out with her prizes, slammed the door and gasped for air.
Max came back and she held ip her prizes." Not alot...but hell,if we find a house we can raid the cupboards." She grinned at him, then tossed him a beef stick." Protein." She piled stuff in the box and got the keys outta her pocket. She stared at him, then bent and folded her own blanket," a bed...sounds like heaven." She packed her bag back up and sat it on the counter next to the box. She was ready to roll.

Max caught the beef stick and tucked it his bag. "It's not that I don't think you can pull your weight. I just fell asleep, I awoke after you did." He pulled out a few tank tops and put them beside her on the counter. "This is all I got to make a sling. Hope it will work. Have you made one before?" He crouched down and put the remaing moonshine jars in a crate, carefully packing them. "Or are you just going with instinct?" He stood back up. "Think I'm all packed up." He grabbed his arrows and its quiver, shoving them into his bag. "My bow will be useless with only one arm. But I got a machete and knife I can use." He packed his boy and whatever was left sitting out. "You checked the office right? Every drawer and in the filling cabinets? If not we should do that before the pumps. I also suggest we do a sweep of the area outside, for supplies and for Sinners, as once this pumps come on it will make noise."
Abby stared at him,"I've used slings, never made one,so yea,I'm winging it." She picked up one of the tanks,"I think one will work,if I can rip it down the seams?" She stared at the tNk and turned it over in her hands.
She glanced at her mid caught inthe task she was going to do." I checked the desk, you can go look,I was trying to get back to help you." As he spoke about the pumps,"what noise...they don' t have power...so how we getting gas out?" She stared at him looking confused.

"Then why did we get the keys, If we can't get the pumps to work without power," Max asked, "the whole reason I got my fucking shoulder smashed." He took a breath, "maybe they have a back up generator y'ah know incase of emergencies." He turned and looked at her. "There still might be stuff outside we should go search for things." Max looked a the sling, "we should use that first." He turned around. "Okay let's get that on."
Abby took a step back from him. Why was he getting angry at her? She held the tank and then moved around behind him. She opened it up and wrapped it around his arm, letting one piece come across his chest in the front and one in the back. She used the arm pieces as ties and tied them on the opposite side of his neck from the hurt shoulder.
She backed away from him, "Well.....most pumps have locked valves in the ground...where the trucks come up and fill them." She had watched it for years at the gas station across from the diner when she worked opening shift.
Abby picked up her bat and set it atop her box, "Alright then...we should get started." She put her pack on and lifted the box, "Can you get the door?" She moved over and waited for him to lift the security door. Abby wasn't being cold to him, she just wasn't sure how to respond to his mood swings. That and her head was killing her.

"Sorry just pain," Max said rubbing his shoulder. When she started to out the sling on he cooperated, moving when she said to move and helping her get it one. He looked at it when it was done. It was a little tight and he couldn't move that arm. It was practically useless now, unable to do anything with the arm. "Let's get going them," he said strapping his knife to his belt and his machete to his back."let's move the shelf blocking it fits," he said getting on one side of it. Once they had moved it he grabbed his duffle bag with his good arm and walked to the door. He held I open for her and when she walke through he went to the car. Max palces his bag in te trunk as he had before and walked back into the gas station to get the creat of moonshine. He placed the in the trunk with his bag. "Put the box there, or in the back seat," he said pointing to the car. he walked to the hatch she talked about, "don't we need a hose to get it out? What are we even going to do? Fill containers of fill the car." His eyes scanned the horizon for Sinners. The sun wa just coming up now so it casted a morning glow on the surroundings. "I'm cold," he said walking to the trunk. He grabbed his jacket and pulled one arm in, draping it over the shoulder in the sling. "Can you do me up," he said motioning to the tab on his leather jacket. "Before we decide what to do with the pumps lets just look around. Might be something we can use."
Abby did as he instructed and placed the food in the trunk. She set her pack in the back seat, and shut the door. She walked back towards the building and spotted the two crests in the concrete, ;They are there. I...don't know...what about that thing you did with your bike?" She raised a brow, then turned around and fastened his jacket. She held her bat between her legs while she did. "Alright...let's go see what we can find." She just wanted to get out of here and find a house. She figured they might find more stuff in a house, that they had in this store.

"I just syphined gas from my tank. Not sure I can recreate here. I'd need a container for sure, a gas canister would be best," Max said as he stepped back from the tanks. "Let's look for one of those, might be around back." Max paced toward the back, his one arm of his coat flowing behind him. Around behind the gas station was mostly ruins. Old machinery and cars left behind. There wa grass growing everywhere and week covering the ground. "Wonder if it was like this before of after te apocalypse," he asked looking at the junk. "Lots of scrap metal, mostly rusted." Along the side of the gas station was a Sinner. It's body was impaled on a pipe coming from the ground. It seemed to not be wearing a shirt, is skin tearing as it shifted to grab them. On its neck was a collar with the words "bichboi," attached to it. "Whatever it is, it's messed up. T can't get us, so we're safe for now."
Abby followed behind him, 'Oh...sorry...I..nevermind." She gave a sigh and when he stopped , she almost ran into the back of him. She was looking around at all the junk. "Shit...sorry."
Her eyes grew large as she stared at the dead man , and how he was hung up. She leaned forward a bit, without getting too close, 'wonder if he was wearing that before..or after?" She glanced at Max, "I...don't see much back here." She saw a bunch of weeds, and she started moving around.
She practically squealed when she saw a rusty old can sitting near one of the old junkers, "Hey! Hey!' she picked it up and held it up for him to see. It ..felt empty, but the rust was all the way through, no holes from what she saw, "It's old...but no holes." It being old was probably why it was still here, everyone was looking for the new red plastic ones.
Abby headed back to Max..."you wanna try...or you wanna use what little we have and then head on up the road,,maybe find a better car...a house...something?" She held the can out to him, and looked around. She didn't like being out here in the open.

"Can might work. It wokrs better with a sealed container," he said looking at it. "My tube I use also won't reach all the way down. Basically if can't find a back up generator to get the pumps going we'll have to go with what we have. I can siphon it from the car, but only cause my tube is long enough. Plus I'd have to be sucking and blowing quite a bit to get it to come up that far." He frowned a little at her. "Let's look for the generator or just leave," he said walking toward the only side they had yet to check. Around the corner was a large generator, just as rusty as the can. "Over here," he called out to her. He crouched down and pushed the in button. The generator made a grinding button but nothing happened. "Maybe we need one of the keys," he suggested.
Abby stared at the thing, and had her doubts, "Um...don't they use gas?" She held out the keys to him, 'Maybe someone beat us to it, or it's broke and we can get the gas out of it?" She walked around the machine and raised a brow, 'It looks really old...I mean, even before all this." She was getting ansy, that was easy to see. She gripped the bat, and looked at him, 'Max....I just wanna go....we can check the tank on this thing..if it's got gas..we get that..if not, let's book outta here" she locked eyes on him, "please?' Abby was shivering, "It's gotten colder, and we need to find someplace we can be warm." She wasn't gonna flat out say she was scared. That was the truth. She moved from foot to foot, and glanced around nervously. She moved back a bit and looked at the car, just to make sure it was still there, more or less.

Max flipped up the tank and saw it was empty, "yeah let's just go," he said standing up. He walked to the car, "you afraid something's going to attack you? Or you afraid of Someone," Max asked. He reached into the pocket opposite of his good arm and pulled out the cars keys. He tosse them to her, "you drive this time, might be difficult with only one arm. At least I don't think its advised." He pulled the machete from his back and slid into the passenger side door. He closed it behind him and waited for her to enter. The machete was placed on the dash and he moved his seat back to recline a little. "Still going to Tennese right? There has to be some towns. Let me see the map," he said when she came into the car.
Abby sighed with what sounded like relief as he said they could go. His question gave her pause,"just cause we gotta live in this world doesn't mean I like what I have to do to survive in it,and this place is starting to give me the creeps." She headed for the car and as he gave her the keys she blanched white ,but said nothing but,"ok"
Abby crawled in the front seat and as soon as she cloaed the door, she hit the lock button. She was paranoid. He mentioned the map and she reaxhed back and fished it out for him," yea...I would think people would head for the high ground,a defendable area." Ahe shrugged and started the car. It was his turn to navigate.
Abby reached back one more time and plopped a sock in his lap,"just in case." She smiled at him and then pulled away from the store.
