Lex couldn't help but chuckle at the Pirates way of talk. It was straight out of 'Treasure Island' for sure. Unlike anything he had heard outside the movies. He shook his head and made his way to the car. It was then that the Pirate asked if he had a name. Lex's first reaction was to shoot it down, but then the man gave his own name.
"Nope," he said with a smirk. "Cap fits ya better." He said as he opened the driver side door. "My friends call me Lex." He said with a moments pause. It looked as if he might have said something more. Some distant memory flooding back into the forefronts of his mind, but he simply shook it off. "Get in." He ordered the Pirate King and shut the door. With the car fired up they made their way down the road. If Roman didn't want to come along, he wasn't going to cry over it.
Lex would drive the car as far as he dared, and the rest of the way would be taken on foot. The ammo was collected, and weapons made ready. They stayed low, and hugged the skirt line of the town, hiding as best as they could. Not just from walkers, but from possible breathers as well. If their was a much larger better equipped group, Lex wanted to steer clear of them, but he didn't want to let this opportunity slip him by either.
They could barely see the town when Lex pulled over to the side of the road. They had about half a mile between them and the town but luckily no walkers had come out this far just yet. The pirate wondered what had been keeping them so close. Normally by now they should have started wandering off in small groups. Whenever he started to understand them they seemed to deliberately defy his understanding.
"Might be a clean path over that way." He said pointing towards the part of town Lex had wanted to go to.
"less them walkers 'ave moved quite a bit. Tis bound ta be the clearest path either way."
Lex gave a nod of his head. It didn't matter which way they went first, he wanted to scope it all out, but if the started with the stores they were going to hit up and then moved to the place they had planned to blow up, perhaps they wouldn't have to make so many trips. "No." He said softly. "Let's scope out the stores first, then we double back and heard to the far end of town to create our diversion." The orders were simple enough, no one could argue that they made the most sense. And so, they headed alone the outside line to the area they were to explore. They would use the crudely drawn map for guidance, adding things that Lex felt was important to know in a hurry back. Obstacles that Cap had not thought to add in his drawing, obstacles that would only serve them well when hurrying their asses off to beat the explosion with fading light. Every second counted, and if one of them hurt themselves along the way, then that meant the other was slowed down or had to leave them, and Lex didn't want to be injured in such a way.
He pulled out his saber and headed off towards the gun store first. The route along the outside was the longest, most indirect but it would give them the most time to react to any walkers, or as much as he hated to admit it to himself, people. He noticed that Lex was adding things to the map. He was glad that his work came in handy he had traded maps for gear before whenever he spotted a place that he couldn't take by himself.
He had to take out a walker in their path and held up a hand. There was a group of five of them directly in their way that they needed to take out.
He whispered to Lex "Definitely can't shoot. Might be I can take out one with a throw of me dagger. That leaves 4 of em. I'm pretty handy wit me saber. Shouldn't be a problem."
With that he threw the dagger and it landed straight in the skull of one of the walkers. He grabbed his marlins spike in his left hand. He stepped forward, hoping that Lex was right behind him. His saber took the first walker, cleaving it's skull in two. His next move had him twisting around and landing his marlinspike in a seconds eye. The strike dried deep enough to destroy the brain and he pulled back on the hook, pulling the eye out with him.
The two continued along the path as Lex marked things along that would make or break them in this mission, it wasn't until The Cap said to halt that Lex came to a stop. He glanced up to where the man had pointed and saw the creatures. He mentioned that he was good with a throwing dagger and preceded to take one out before moving in to tackle two more.
"Dammit." Lex spouted as he drew the machetes from their cloth sheathes and moved in to aid. He swung at one, bringing the blade of his weapon in an arc straight down on the first one. The blade bit down and stuck in the skull of the creature as it fell to the ground. He released the handle and stepped forward to close the gap between him and the last walker, who by now had time to react to the pirate. It reached out and was just about to grab him when Lex intervened and cleaved it's head clean off. He stopped his swing just before cutting into the Cap's throat. It was a very close call.
The cleaved head soared through the air, bouncing off the captain's shoulder. The Zombie made a few biting attempts, but Lex's boot was quick to stomp it out for good. Crushing any signs of so called life from the creature. He glanced at the Captain before motioning for them to continue moving. At least he knew the crazy bastard could hold his own in a fight now. The Captain was proving more and more to be of use.
As the head bounced off his shoulder he flicked his saber to clear it of blood and sheathed it. He the knelt down and pulled the dagger out of the first walkers head and returned it to it's sheath as well. Now came the nasty part as he grabbed the eye and brain matter that had found it's way to being stuck on his marlinespike and removed it. HE wiped the blood and gore off the tool and returned it to it's place as well. He gave a nod to Lex and they continued on towards the bigger store. When they got around another set of cars they could finally see the entrance to the superstore and what they saw there had the pirate just a little bit disheartened. There were more walkers in front of the store now then when he had been by here before. He counted at least 20 which was more then he and Lex would be able to take on, even together.
"Certainly hope yer explosion plan works lubber," he whispered. "No way the two of us is gonna take that many."
"I guess we'll see." Was all Lex would say on the matter. He did a head count himself, and noted it on the paper. Once they became alerted to the presence of the two, nearly forty more would be on them within minutes. This didn't look good at all. But if his plan worked, then all should be well. "Time to move." He whispered to the Captain and then started off to check point two.
Since Lex had lead the way this time the pirate simply followed. They had a decent amount of ground to clear and since they had to do so in an at least mildly stealthy manner it took about twice the time it would have any other way. At least Lex seemed to have some training in moving this way. He had gotten lucky and stumbled on a lubber who had been given tactical training. They were almost to their second checkpoint when a walker stumbled out of a corner that they had failed to clear, mainly because when they had looked around the corner there hadn't been any walkers there. Cap went into motion, his dagger planting itself in the walkers brain. They were too close to the group for Cap to just let the body fall and so he grabbed it and gently set it down on the ground.
